SO WAIT.

Not ONLY was Diana Gabaldon inspired to write Jamie Fraser by Frazer Hines' character Jamie MacCrimmon on Doctor Who, but once she had finished writing Jamie Fraser--who gets, as you may know, tortured and sodomized in the grand finale of the story--she packed up a couple of copies and mailed them to Frazer Hines. To... thank him.

*facepalm*

Could I make this up? I could not make this up.

*shudder* But further proof she has no idea of fandom & its customs/rules.

[personal profile] missmollyetc has observed, and the evidence continues to mount in support, that DG is basically a feral fan who never learned to play nicely with others.

If this is how she thinks fans behave, it's not surprising that she doesn't want any.

One of the comments in the very first post on her blog - now sadly lost - was from someone who rather apologetically explained that she might be responsible for DG's bad impression of fans. The commenter was an acquaintance of DG's who, in the process of supervising or just learning from her daughter's reading on ff.net, ran across fanfic for some other fandom which actually did plagiarize sex scenes from one or more of Diana's books, and which Diana rightly put out a C&D hit on. Not the same as actual fanfic of her books, but an unfortunate first impression.

Seriously, though, the more I read about her the more I can see she has all the essential fannish impulses and just ... never found fandom to share them with.

(Sorry! Deleted the first one because it went in ahead of me.)

Anyway, WORD. The evidence is just...it's creepy, and while I am always happy to have my crazy thoughts substantiated by fact, this is just...I just have nothing but headshaking left to my responses.
