Soooo I'm about six days away from posting my SG-1 big bang, and I thought I'd let people get an idea of what it's actually about, courtesy of pairings, warnings, and the blurb I had to write when I turned in my rough draft:

Pairings: Jack/Sam/Daniel/Teal'c, Sam/Daniel/Teal'c, Jack/Sam, Sam/Daniel, with assorted smidges of Jack/Daniel, Jack/Teal'c, and Daniel/Sha're.

Warnings: Multiple major character deaths. Nearly all off-screen before the beginning of the story.

AU from late season 3, after "Pretense" but before "A Hundred Days". (Sha're is dead, Skaara is free.)

Jack wakes up in the SGC to the news that his team is dead. If he weren't hearing the news from General Hammond he might not believe it--and even so it's not quite real until he sees the bodies. Once he does, he knows nothing is ever going to be the same again.

Sam wakes up in the SGC to the news that she is now the senior member of SG-1. Jack O'Neill is dead. For Sam and her team, nothing is ever going to be the same again.

SG-1 might be able to go on like this--Sam's going to keep her team together if it kills her--but a man who's lost his team is capable of anything, and Jack's about to do the unthinkable to make things right.

And if anybody wanted the [Title Redacted] Big Bang Playlist, there it is. Forty-one songs in a mix of m4a and mp3 formats, hosted at megaupload. This is the playlist I've been using to get myself into the right mindset for writing my story (i.e. a collection of all the songs that make me go "This is totally about Jack!" and "This is totally about Sam!" and "This is totally about [redacted]!" I listen to it on shuffle, so there's no specified order (I considered trying to arrange all 41 songs into an order that reflects their correspondences to specific moments in the narrative arc of the story, and then I realized that would mean never, ever getting around to sharing the playlist).

But if you want to get approximately the right feel, I would suggest listening to "Another New World" and then "Furlough" first, and "Solsbury Hill" and "Never Quite Free" last. Also, listen to "When U Love Somebody" followed immediately by "Sax Rohmer #1" just because the juxtaposition makes me wave my hands a lot.

Another New World - Josh Ritter
But I won't call it rescue, what brought me back here
to this old world to drink and decline
And pretend that the search for another new world
was well worth the burning of mine.

Furlough - Candidate
Hey, I love you
And I'm hovering above you
And I will wander through your dreams tonight

Now or Never - Ag Silver
Oh, God, look what we've done
We've made a mess of love
Oh, God, look what we've done
We've lost and no one's won

Lucky Ones - Bif Naked
How could I ever get over you,
When I'd give my life for yours
I know we are, we are the lucky ones

Arc of Time - Bright Eyes
Every star is crossed by frenetic thoughts
That separate and then collide

This Is Why We Fight - Decemberists
When we die
We will die with our arms unbound
And this is why
This is why we fight

Brothers in Arms - Dire Straits
You did not desert me, my brothers in arms

Travelin' Thru - Dolly Parton
I'm out here on my journey, trying to make the most of it
I'm a puzzle, I must figure out where all my pieces fit

Sahara - Eddie from Ohio
If I had no home, I'd build one in the sand
If I didn't have a love, I'd find me one

No Fear No Hate No Pain (No Broken Hearts) - The Eurythmics
And when the sun comes up
It's like a new commotion
You say nobody told you
It would feel like this

When U Love Somebody - Fruit Bats
When you love somebody and bite your tongue,
All you get is a mouthful of blood

St. Peter's Bones - Girlyman
The world alive, the world unseen

Still Alive - GlaDOS
I'm doing science and I'm still alive

Space Girl - The Imagined Village
She said I'd need a blaster and I'd need a freezer gun,
And I did, I did, I did.

Girl in the War - Josh Ritter
I got a girl in the war,
Paul, I know that they can hear me yell
If they can't find a way to help,
they can go to Hell

The Temptation of Adam - Josh Ritter
Then one night you found me in my army issue cot
You told me of your flash of inspiration
You said fusion is the broken heart that's lonely's only thought,
And all night long you drove me wild with your equations

Wildfires - Josh Ritter
You must be living on land mines
You must be living on land mines
Must be why you're crying
Broken glass

Orbital - Josh Ritter
Love or gravity or law
Whatever name it's got it's got me
Circling round you

Jugulars Bones and Blisters - Matt Jones
I know you won't understand unless I spell it out concise

Elijah - The Mountain Goats
Let the water roll,
Let the fire take its toll,
I'm coming home
I'm coming home

There Will Be No Divorce - The Mountain Goats
And you punched out all the windows
And the wind began to wail
And you gathered your hair behind your head
Like god was gonna catch you by the ponytail

Sax Rohmer #1 - The Mountain Goats
And I am coming home to you
With my own blood in my mouth
And I am coming home to you
If it's the last thing that I do

The Cave - Mumford and Sons
So come out of your cave walking on your hands
And see the world hanging upside down

Val Jester - The National
Fill her coat with weapons and help her get it on
'Cause one day when she goes, she's gone

Anyone's Ghost - The National
Didn't want to be your ghost
Didn't want to be anyone's ghost
But I don't want anybody else

There Is a Light - Nick Cave
Ain't there nowhere to run, ain't there nowhere to go?

Marchin On - OneRepublic
There's so many wars we fought
There's so many things we're not
But with what we have
I promise you that
We're marchin' on

Life - Our Lady Peace
Life is waiting for you
It's all messed up but we're alive
Life is waiting for you
It's all messed up but we'll survive

I Grieve - Peter Gabriel
Life carries on and on and on...

Drive - R. E. M.
Hey, kids, where are you?
Nobody tells you what to do, baby.

Try Not to Breathe - R. E. M.
I will try not to worry you.
I have seen things that you will never see.
Leave it to memory me. I shudder to breathe.

It's the End of the World As We Know It - R. E. M.
It starts with an earthquake

Former Glory - Ron Sexsmith
Your light will return
The summer will return
Your heart will rise again
In its former glory

I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Hair) - Sandi Thom
[The anthem of all Sam Carters]

Once in a Lifetime - The Talking Heads
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house,
With a beautiful wife,
And you may ask yourself,
Well... how did I get here?

Devotion - Tracy Chapman
If I am right
If I can be
Constant and faithful
You'll find me
In my devotion

Are We Family - The Tragically Hip
From happy-go-lucky to surly-go-crazy the lot
and more often than not admission to the battles is free

Gravities - We're About 9
The anger will hold you as long
As you keep holding on
And the pain can be plural
And singular at the same time

Helplessly Hoping - We're About 9
They are one person
They are two alone
They are three together
They are for each other

Solsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel
You can keep my things,
They've come to take me home

Never Quite Free - The Mountain Goats
It's okay to find the faith to saunter forward
With no fear of shadows spreading where you stand

Sometimes you sounds as though you are juggling more balls in your stories than I even knew existed. Wow, that looks impressive!

I am not even making this up: one of the beta comments I got on it was a wish for a chart to keep track of what was going on. *g*

I am really looking forward to this! And oh my goodness, that playlist is basically jammed full of songs that make my heart go squish, so I am both even more excited and also kind of afraid. :D

...and isn't that funny? In H/C fic, the character that's hurt the worst is usually the character that the author loves best....

So this is a long shot, but I don't suppose you either (1) are willing to reupload this (I could give you Dropbox space?) or (2) have a particular short instrumental snippet that just yells "this is Jigsaw" to you? Because I'm starting to wonder if the section breaks in the podfic-in-progress wouldn't do better with an audible marker, because I keep listening and going back to make the silences between sections longer and longer, which at some point becomes unsustainable. I may try one of the show's special effects sounds, or maybe the slow opening bit of the theme music, I don't know--it'll involve a lot of trial-and-error and probably finding a beta listener--but more options is always good.

Thanks!

Thanks again! We have almost completely non-overlapping taste in Josh Ritter songs, it's pretty impressive, but there were a bunch of songs I really liked. (And I think one of them will work for what I want, though I'm still refining it.)

Do you want me to turn that into a zip and put it in the public folder so you can share a link again?

Ha, that's awesome! I don't know that any of those are my favorites of his, but you gotta admit the one about the Arctic explorer is very Jack. Uh, as long as you're willing to swap the ship for his team. *g*

I don't know that there's much demand for the soundtrack right now, but maybe when you post the podfic I could link to it again?
