Today I introduced my most local of local fangirls, [personal profile] renenet, to Generation Kill. I'd taken the precaution of assigning homework for our marathon, i.e. having her read the TWOP recap of the first episode, so she'd have some chance of following the action and knowing who people were, and we still did some pausing and stuff, and an excellent time was had by all. Especially since she is a right-thinking person and agrees with me about the non-stop awesomeness that is Nate Fick. ♥

I was surprised though--this morning, gearing up to watch the whole miniseries, I was kind of bracing myself. It's a lot of unhappiness and futility and various shades of awfulness to spend your entire day on (though as I type that I think, well, that's a lot less time than these guys put into all that futility and awfulness: still. As a hobby, it is, you know. Questionable.)

Anyway: I was surprised. Because through the entire first two episodes I was just nonstop BEAMING AT THE SCREEN and occasionally making heart-hands, because I just. love them. so much. And apparently I had missed them since the last time I watched. So maybe I shouldn't go another six months before I watch again.

(Also also more than ever I was watching and thinking about where everyone's wolves were at any given moment and how things are playing out with X and Y given situation Z and so on. So, uh, now I should get tonight's writing in. Time for horrible things to happen to Nate!)

♥ And on the way home I passed a Hummer--and not even that annoying bright yellow one I always used to see driving around the East Side, but a nice, neutral beige color.

Your periodic heart-hands were so cute and Nate Fick is indeed non-stop awesome! ♥

Obviously the Hummer was a Sign. Of. Something. *g*

Mmm, yes! I actually watched half of ep 1 last night too, while I was cooking, and it turned out to be a bad idea because I kept stopping the actual cooking to stare at the screen. *g* I LOVE THIS SHOW, in conclusion. Did you finish watching the whole thing?

We did! It took about nine hours, I think, with breaks and pauses to explain and the occasional rewind to appreciate something important. *g*

But, yeah, definitely not something I could put on for background noise while cooking. ♥

It is entirely your fault that my girlfriend and I bought the series to watch for the first time, so your fic is even more awesome.

I, er, I never even made it all the way through the first episode, and I only got that far because I loved your fics and wanted the wider context. I think I may try again at some point, but to be entirely honest, you gave me everything I need...

Speaking of things I need (ahem) Baby!fic? Or should that be Baby Fick? (Oh god, I can't believe I just did that...)

If you get the urge to try again, I would suggest skipping to the second episode. In the second episode they actually get to do things instead of just standing around being horrible at each other because they're bored. *g* When I introduced [personal profile] iulia to the series, I skipped to the second ep because the first is kind of a steep introduction. Alternately, try reading the TWOP recaps, which unpack a lot of what is going on and who the guys are and why you might care.

Or, you know, don't ever watch, if it's not your thing. That is also a valid lifestyle choice!

The Babyfic about Baby Fick is in the editing stage now, so... soon. Although there is some kind of Zeno's Paradox thing going on with the editing process, so I'm not at all sure just how soon. *g*
