My first thought on seeing a promo today - aside from 'nice hair, Kurt Russell' - was 'I bet I can write slash for that.'
Now, you probably think that's self-evident, given my love for hockey and slash, but I'm not completely sure. See, I can't write slash for hockey, because they're real people (realer than, e.g., popstars) and it gives me the jibblies. Now, characters in a movie about hockey ought to be fine, except that, as it's based on a true story, they're presumably representing real hockey players, who are probably off limits (although, since I am a wretched hypocrite, probably only off limits if they made it to the NHL and I recognize their names; otherwise I can pretend they're completely fictional even if they probably aren't). Just as I can't write Band of Brothers slash, because even though any two given Very Close Guy Friends in an HBO miniseries ought to be fair game, within the constraints imposed by historical time period and it being really freaking cold all the time, those particular characters are actually real people (for the record, WWII vets are way realer than popstars, and possibly realer than hockey players as well).
Clearly, what I need to do is:
1) Rent and watch Mystery, Alaska and/or Slapshot 2 and write slash for that instead, and,
2) Stop being so half-assed about my RPS squick. It's too confusing.
