So it turns out that once I stop having some specific thing I'm supposed to post about every day I... stop posting. But I thought it might be nice to check in over here at the journals; I still haven't really gotten the hang of actually interacting with people fannishly on twitter/Tumblr, so I might as well stick around here and talk to my fellow internet dinosaurs. ♥

So, things I've been up to since I posted last:

Having a girlfriend! )

Having Teen Wolf as my primary fandom. /o\ (Spoilers!) )

Writing, kind of erratically. )

Reading! Books and fic. )

Which reminds me that [personal profile] verity showed me a nine-minute Merlin vid to "I Would Do Anything for Love," and I had [personal profile] astolat and [personal profile] cesperanza's vid to the same song running through my head the whole time, because apparently watching a nine-minute Merlin vid is a thing that I will totally do for love. ♥ ♥ ♥

So that's me, lately. What are you all up to?
dira: Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Reid & Prentiss - Ha!)
(Although, apropos of my icon, I have also started catching up on season 5 of Criminal Minds.)

Okay, a) this was possibly my favorite episode ever and b) possibly a spoiler, depending on your perspective. )

I did a whole complicated thing here with a random number generator instead of just following the instructions, because I like to make life difficult for myself. But the actual directions for this meme are:

-Write down twenty of your favorite pairings/threesomes/etc.
-Put your media player on shuffle. The number of the song corresponds to the number of the pairing.
-Quote a part of the song that you think has any similarity with the couple.
[Although I may wander off into speculating on the song or some part of the song as a fic prompt, if it doesn't otherwise seem to apply.]

Drake/Josh - The National, Trophy Wives )

Jack/Sam/Daniel/Teal'c - XTC, Dear God )

Miles/Ekaterin - U2, One )

Aral/Cordelia - The Tragically Hip, Tiger the Lion )

Taura/Roic - The National, Cherry Tree )

Dag/Fawn - Reel Big Fish (covering A-Ha), Take on Me )

Eugenides/Attolia/Eddis/Sophos - Sufjan Stevens, Seven Swans )

Ramie/Jack&Jill/Tommy - The Mountain Goats, Cubs in Five )

Neal/Peter/El - Vienna Teng, Augustine )

Parker/Hardison/Eliot - The National, Fashion Coat )

Nate/Sophie - Peter Gabriel, Here Comes the Flood )

Danny/Lindsay - Lemonheads, Mrs. Robinson )

Eleven/Amy/Rory - KT Oslin, Come Next Monday )

Okay, that stuff I said, above, about random number generators and stuff? THIS WAS RANDOM, THIS WAS REALLY TOTALLY RANDOM AND I DID NOT MAKE IT HAPPEN. POSSIBLY THEY REACHED OUT AND MADE IT HAPPEN SOMEHOW.

Cobb/Saito - The National, Secret Meeting )

Nine/Jack/Rose - Sufjan Stevens, Chicago (Multiple Personality Disorder Version) )

Metacrisis!Ten/Rose - Eddie from Ohio, Sahara )

Jack/Ianto - The National, Val Jester )

Kirk/McCoy - Elton John, Candle in the Wind )

Kirk/Spock - The Dresden Dolls, Mrs. O )

Rory Williams/River Song - Symphony of Science,  )

1) So I forgot to mention it when the computer actually arrived, but I have a new computer! Her name is Sophie and she's beautiful. )

It's been kind of weird, because I keep expecting myself to be in a state of "whee, shiny new toy!" and instead I am in more of a state of "whew, back to something like normal." It's more like getting into my own place after living on someone else's (wonderfully comfy and kindly supplied) couch for a while--more a relief than anything, and requiring a lot of wandering around figuring out where things should go and where stuff is. Which I guess is just a marker of the role that my computer plays in my life: definitely not a toy.

2) Speaking of Sophies, tonight is Leverage night! Yay!

1a and/or 2a) I was thinking about whether to do custom start-up and shutdown noises for Sophie (for my previous computer, Indiana, it was the exchange from the end of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade between Indy and Henry Sr.: I like Indiana on startup and We named the dog Indiana on shutdown) and I am kind of tempted to use, if I can figure out how to obtain them, Nate saying "Let's go get ourselves a Sophie" for startup, and ... Sophie saying something, for shutdown, but I'm not sure what.

3) Unrelated to any of the above, yesterday I was browsing Electric Velocipede, mainly because it has such a cool name, and read the story Daughters of Fortune by Cyril Simsa. It's about two women in Prague in the Thirties, and possibly it is also about vampires, or rusalka, or ... I am not entirely sure, and do not wish to spoil it. I am still trying to figure out whether I liked it, so please comment if you have read it or do read it. It has definitely stuck in my mind.
dira: Matt and Emily (from Standoff) spooning under white sheets. (Matt/Emily - Spoons!)
In further adventures of things I honestly have no intention of writing:

It occurred to me this morning that there ought to be, somewhere in fandom, a French Kiss AU (shut up I love that movie).

First I tried it with White Collar, like maybe El is Meg Ryan and obviously Neal is Kevin Kline and Peter is ... Jean Reno? And they all end up together? Hm.

OR, Peter is Meg Ryan and El is Timothy Hutton and the falling in love with a French supermodel part is a wacky misunderstanding of some sort, and they all end up together. That might actually work pretty well.

Anyway, but then I got stuck trying to figure out if that means Neal is French--and, in the Peter-is-Jean-Reno version, is Peter French? Is Peter working for Interpol? Complicated.

And I thought to myself, surely there is another fandom I could smash this concept into and then I thought, OH! YES!

BONES IS MEG RYAN AND JIM IS KEVIN KLINE!

Which inevitably means that SPOCK IS JEAN RENO, and so on... )

The only thing I'm sure of is that you cannot cross the Timothy Huttons: it doesn't work with Leverage at all. (Well, maybe it would sort of work as a trio-only AU with Hardison as Meg Ryan and Parker as Kevin Kline and Eliot as Jean Reno, but--no. No. I'm gonna stop now.)

John Rogers answers fan questions about the Leverage S2 Finale, and, at the end, links to TNT's stock of Leverage S3 streaming promo videos (which do not seem to work in Chrome but do work in Chrome's IE tab).

One of them is Leverage: The Fights and includes, from 0:59 to 1:08, a clip of what seems to be an upcoming season 3 fight and ...

I'm probably totally hallucinating, but who does that look like to you guys, in that clip starting at 0:59?

Relatedly, why on earth do I not have any Leverage icons? OMG why is it not the third weekend in June RIGHT NOW? Why will TNT not allow me to link directly to the SNEAK PEEKS heading so you can all click directly to the sneak peek of The Jailhouse Job? GO LOOK THOUGH.

a) I am back from Boston. I am also back from Michigan. I ... just went ten days without posting, that was sort of weird. It was a busy ten days.

b) @TimHutton is my favorite tweeter ever. He just posted this video from the Leverage set which I found slightly cringe-inducing as a performance, but on the other hand there are jazz hands and, you know, possibly the closest thing we will ever get to a musical episode of Leverage. ♥

c) I finished Busman's Honeymoon and managed to confine myself to rereading "Talboys" and have not (yet) either started over at the beginning of the series for Peter-and-Bunter and Peter-and-Parker hijinks, or started rereading Miles Vorkosigan.

Yet.
dira: Rose Tyler shines on. (Rose - Shine)
This is what happens when I watch a lot of Leverage with [personal profile] iulia and then try to compare the Leverage team to the SG-1 Gold Standard of Co-Dependence.

Team. 357 words. Apocalypse.
"We all know what the stakes are here."

The Job )

So, wait, now I have to wait until WHEN for more Leverage? This may have been completely horrible timing.

Spoilers for S2 finale, The Maltese Falcon Job )

Also--and I have thought this since before I ever saw the show, and now I think it even harder--there really needs to be a Leverage vid to BNL's "Bank Job":

We all had positions
We each had a role
We'd over-rehearsed it
We had full control

They can't teach you acting
It's there in your soul
It's the same with the bank job
And each thing we stole

To say nothing of the part about the nuns....

I just watched twenty episodes of Leverage in a single day but, much like Nate Ford, okay, I do not have a problem.

Well, okay, I do have a problem. The problem is that I have run out of episodes to watch and have to wait until Wednesday for more. THAT IS A PROBLEM.

Spoiler-ish other teensy tiny problem I might possibly have. )
dira: John McClane in the ductwork. (McClane - Have a few laughs)
So apparently there's some kind of televised sports competition going on right now? IDK because for the last day or so I have been watching A LOT OF RECORDED TV.

So yesterday I watched six hours of White Collar and then this morning I watched two more episodes and then ran around like a crazy person cleaning up my apartment and then I--

YAY!

I went and got [livejournal.com profile] strangecobwebs from Cameron Mitchell International Airport, because she is visiting me this weekend and I had not seen her in a YEAR and she had been sitting on my couch for less than an hour before she suggested that we should really finish getting me caught up on White Collar.

This is why she is my Valentine, okay.

So now I am all caught up on White Collar and I would just like to say YAY and FEEL FREE TO REC ME SOME OT3 FIC and JONESY PETER ILU.

And then we sat around and talked for a bit and then she said, "Do you watch Leverage?"

And I said, "Not yet."

And then we ordered pizza and watched six episodes of Leverage, and I would just like to say YAY and FEEL FREE TO REC ME SOME OT3 FIC and one other thing, having just watched the one with the orphans:

Parker and Mark Vorkosigan. DISCUSS.
