What, exactly, is the canon about John Sheppard's black mark? I know that the existence of a black mark on his record is referred to in the pilot, and the fact that he earned it by disobeying orders in a rescue attempt. Do we know who, if anyone, he succeeded in saving? Or how long ago this had happened? Pointers to the actual dialogue on which this stuff is based are extra-super-appreciated.

...Oh God I've just realized I have more than one thing I want to write for which I need this information. Did I somehow just pimp myself into SGA in 2011? IDEK.

1) As I haven't said this anywhere outside of comments and IMs yet: Although nothing can be promised, [personal profile] iulia and I firmly intend to propose and volunteer to VJ a Lord King Bad Vid show for VividCon 2011. We can't make it happen without new and new-ish vids, so if you are a vidder reading this consider this your notice that any LKBVs you choose to make in the next ten months could well find a home there! Hypothetically! Maybe!

And if the vid show thing doesn't work out, well. Who doesn't want to see more Lord King Bad Vids? There are whole fandoms that missed out on the last round due to not really existing yet. I feel like Merlin, for example, just cries out for Lord King Bad Vidding.

2) When you are feeling physically wretched for an assortment of not-very-good reasons, there is nothing like seven episodes of Mythbusters in twenty-four hours to make you feel better. Although the sleep, drugs, and pizza probably helped.

3) So last summer, maybe you remember this, I got kind of hooked on the Varg Veum movies, which are from Norway. So, also sometime last summer, I think, I became a fan of Varg Veum on Facebook. It's really entertaining to see occasional posts on my Facebook newsfeed entirely in Norsk. I'm pretty sure that the first of the six new movies is premiering, possibly at some sort of film festival, on Thursday the 26th, and from the set photos posted a week or two ago, I'd guess they're hard at work making more movies.

Now I just have to wait for the movie(s) to make it to DVD, get subtitled in English, and cross the Atlantic. No sweat. In the meantime, I should chase down another of the novels in translation....

4)

5) Speaking of Amy Pond and my undying love for her, Neil Gaiman shares a scene cut from the episode he wrote, which is about to go to table-reading.

This year I may be looking forward to the Amy and Her Boys Christmas Special (which, to be clear, is not the episode mentioned above, but still, AMY AND HER BOYS) more than Yuletide.

6) Also speaking of Amy Pond, I was following David Hewlett for a while on Twitter (because Joe Flanigan got on Twitter and I was following him and it seemed obvious) but then I had to un-follow him for his egregious failure to appreciate Amy Pond. :(

The Flan continues to be pretty entertaining, though.

7) I should write something. Speaking of Amy Pond...

I am too entertained by the little bit of this I've written not to share. )

Does anyone remember the name of the town where Panic's infamous cabin is located?

I absolutely do not want to know in order to work out what kind of weather they would be having there during the apocalypse I have been plotting on and off for several weeks, with greater intensity ever since reading [livejournal.com profile] rheanna27's brilliant McKay/Sheppard postapoc, The Hard Prayer.

Also, they were there in the late winter/early spring, yes?

I don't want to talk about who I was Google Image Searching, or why (which is to say: Christian Kane, due to an unexpected description of his hair color late in a rather brilliant schoolboy!jared bdsm j2 epic) but I think this might be the awesomest webpage I have seen in a very. long. time.

I am having, like, a serious crisis about del.icio.us organization, you guys.

See, it's been working pretty great! I have a del.icio.us account filled with an alarming number of bandom-related fics and picspams and videos and interviews and so on. I just sorted out the thorny problem of different types of AUs by establishing five different AU tags, although I think I might at some point want to institute a sixth. I think I'm also going to be instituting a few timeline-related tags, i.e. earlydays and future and perhaps even summeroflike and so on.

And then along comes this brilliant story, that I have been anticipating for ages, and today I finally read it, and it is long and awesome and hot and one of my favorite guys ever in an unusual pairing and emotional fuckuppedness and awesome grubby post-apoc and...

Guys. It's not bandslash.

It's SGA/SG-1: At the Hour When We Are Trembling, by [livejournal.com profile] frostfire_17, and it's John/Daniel and the Wraith have conquered Earth and, you guys, you guys, I love it.

And I want to tag it. But it is going to totally fuck up my nice neat system of tags. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. This is far from the first librarian-freakout I've had over del.icio.us (Tags = subject access! MY KINGDOM FOR AUTHORITY CONTROL! MY FIRSTBORN FOR THE ABILITY TO NARROW A SEARCH!) and it will probably not be the last, but on some level I'm kind of amused at how sincerely bothered I am by the prospect of mingling real- and fake-people fandoms in my del.icio.us bookmarks.

PS, the Pete/Patrick story I am working on right now is at 15,798 words and it is so close to being done. So. Close.

Okay, so today's post is also known as What Happened That One Time When Dira Tried To Write SGA.

This was back circa season one (which might almost explain why Rodney is calling Sheppard "John" in his POV, but mostly, I ... I have no idea. Sorry.) and I had an IDEA! for a STORY! which I spent several pages lovingly setting up and then, when I got to the part where John and Rodney actually interacted, I got bored and wandered off.

So, um, whoever it was who asked me for 100 words of John/Rodney without Rodney talking, back when I did the drabble meme? Here is why that totally cracked me up.

John/Rodney pre-slash. Season 1.

Silent Treatment )
dira: Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Default)
More drabbles from last week's requests, once again somewhat out of order due to the random striking of inspiration.

[livejournal.com profile] skylark_cee wanted CSI - A case that involves a hard drive is full of Numb3rs D/C incestfic. Neither I nor Nick could quite get our brains around that one:

Unmentionable )

[livejournal.com profile] lilac_one asked for Colby/David "That is one annoying asshole."

Riled )

[livejournal.com profile] justbreathe80 requested John/Rodney, honey.

Bitter )

For reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, [livejournal.com profile] strangecobwebs thought it would be funny to request John and Rodney discussing child custody laws of certain planets.

Taken In )

[livejournal.com profile] gryphons_lair asked for Ivan babysitting for Miles. I doubt this is quite what she meant, but Ivan can be sneaky like that. Takes place during Diplomatic Immunity.

In Loco Parentis )

[livejournal.com profile] iscaris asked for Don/Colby!!!1111!!

Compromised )
dira: Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Gate by Splash)
I've gone a little out of order, because some of these proved easier than others, and my goal was to be less fraught over writing. Herewith, my first words of SG-1 in a year and a half, and my first SGA ever...

[livejournal.com profile] splash_the_cat asked for Sam and Daniel. Scrabble.

Travel Size )

[livejournal.com profile] aneli8 wanted One hundred words of John/Rodney in which Rodney doesn't talk.

Shh )

[livejournal.com profile] monroe_nell suggested (and HAD BETTER LOVE) John/Rodney with a kitten.

Warm and Fuzzy )
dira: Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Rodney - Brain Lick by lamardeuse)
[livejournal.com profile] strangecobwebs and I were both draggy on the train this morning, in large part because I cruelly kept her locked up in my apartment past her bedtime, making her watch episode after episode of SGA* which is totally not at all her new fandom.

So when a pair of seats opened up, I darted over to try and claim them, only to come face to face with a woman and small child aiming for the same seats, and slunk back to the pole where Strange was standing with a mutter of, "I guess we won't steal seats from small children."

A few stops later, said woman and small child got off the train, and Strange pointed out the empty seats and asked if I wanted to grab them. "Sure," I said, "now that we're not stealing seats from children."

"Well, hey," Strange replied as we sat down. "At least we didn't steal their ZedPM."

* "The Defiant One" through "Letters from Pegasus." Not, at any time, "Childhood's End," although I did explain the plot point when it came up again.

So I'm showing [livejournal.com profile] textualchauvini and [livejournal.com profile] strangecobwebs the first few episodes of Stargate: Atlantis, because I got it on DVD for Christmas, yay!

[livejournal.com profile] dsudis: I'm really glad this John-and-Teyla thing never went anywhere.

So on Atlantis, Earth=Chino.

Man, the crossover possibilities there are... hooboy.

This is me, not thinking about tomorrow's trip to the dentist, tomorrow's slew of moving- and credit-card-debt-related phone calls, or the Supreme Court. Instead, a meme!

Selectively swiped from [livejournal.com profile] pearl_o among others: If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or NaNoWriMo or what have you, post exactly one sentence/paragraph/whatever from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favorite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don't mention anything else -- this is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s).

(I did this one in November, when it was NaNo-appropriate, and posted snippets from seven WIPs. 1.083 of them got finished in the intervening eight months, and the rest... probably won't be. Also, in November, they were all from one fandom and now they're, uh. Not.)

Anyway, WIPs: )

Sorry to be a party-pooper to all this lively discussion, but I think this article should be deleted entirely from Wiki. I mean the imaginary elves that live inside my brain might celebrate certain fiestas, but that doesn't mean I should write an encyclopedia article about it.

...seemed like an appropriate way to introduce my lovely squeeful Rodney icon, made by [livejournal.com profile] lamardeuse from the season two promo photos for Atlantis. Some of which include casting spoilers, and many of which look weirdly airbrushed and badly photoshopped, but! Rodney in layered t-shirts with his hands in his jeans pockets, eeeee!

Also, the Random Page button at Wikipedia turns out to be an infinitely entertaining way to waste time.

Two lovely lovely new Numb3rs icons by the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] dubhartach!

And that's not the only good thing about the last twenty-four hours.

a) I think I've found a place to live, like, for serious. Still a few logistical hurdles to deal with, but if I can work it, it should be awesome.

*knocks wood*

b) I FINALLY saw last week's Numb3rs episode, Noisy Edge )

...and that really put me into a happy frame of mind to go off to

c) Write Club. Which this week was more, like, "Do something entertaining on your computer and occasionally tell the others about it" club. In my case, I spent pretty much the entire time watching vids. It started when I discovered a couple of randomly misplaced Stargate vids in my "pretties" picture folder (not that Daniel's not pretty, just in this instance he's more properly filed under "unshared video") and one of them was the utterly hilarious vid that, um, somebody did to Semisonic's "Bed." Not just hysterically funny, but actually made me go "Oh, hm, that's an interesting Jack/Daniel dynamic..."

And then [livejournal.com profile] splash_the_cat said, "Have you seen that Atlantis vid...?" and I said, "I haven't seen hardly any Atlantis vids." And she and her 1GB jump drive solved that problem right quick.

So I got to see a number of wonderful vids by [livejournal.com profile] danvers, among others - "Boulevard of the Broken" (it's a vid to a MASHUP! BRILLIANT!) and "Too Funky" in particular were both just incredibly cool. And I finally saw the SG-1 S8/Atlantis S1 Lowdown, which was wonderful and adorable and wow I love them all.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, I got nailed with a dirtyhot random Numb3rs bunny, thus bringing my evening full circle and leaving me a happy girl.

Moral of the story: hot guys and decent housing make everything better.

dira: Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Charlie - In My Head)
My Numb3rs/Atlantis crossover story, Classified (35k) is done and up at my website. It's gen and all-ages appropriate aside from a few stray curse words. Big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] iuliamentis for beta work and to [livejournal.com profile] byob_kenobi for answering my random Atlantis questions, and to anyone else who listened to me rabbit on (and on) about this in the last few days.

Don,

Everything's fine. Don't worry about me. I'm having a great time.

Charlie

I usually try not to explain or apologize much when announcing fic, but I feel like I should say something about this one. The crossover split is about 90/10 Numb3rs/Atlantis. It's probably completely possible to read it without knowing anything at all about Atlantis, and likely to be really unsatisfying to read if you only know Atlantis. It's set vaguely post-season for both Numb3rs and Atlantis, and since I'm largely unspoiled it's all speculative.

Also, now seems like a good time to explain the disclaimer-ish aspect of my icon. The text comes from a line of Charlie's regarding why he's not working on a case even though Don needs his help: Please, understand, sometimes I can't choose what I work on. I can't follow through on a line of thinking just because I want to, or, or because it's needed. I have to work on what's in my head. And right now, this is what's in my head.

Both Charlie and I can, at times, pull our acts together and choose to work on something necessary, but... well, this is what's in my head.

[livejournal.com profile] viggorlijah, feel free to regard this as a birthday gift, no further echo required. *g*

I guess my incoherent squee could constitute spoilage )
dira: Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Gate by Splash)
Okay, slash fans, I've located a non-terrifying Stargate Aquarium Atlantis slash comm: [livejournal.com profile] pegasus_gate. Not a word about plushies so far, although the only fic posted has been Sheppard/Ford.

Beckett hasn't gotten much love, either, but it's early yet.

Speaking of which: OMG Beckett! With his saying of "Rodney" and "fainted" and his mouse retrovirus and his amused little looks...

OTOH, we had Sheppard and McKay in the magical closet together, and McKay with his manly hunger, clutching his PowerBar like a teddy bear, and Shep humoring his boyfriend the hero by saying "passed out" at the end. Maybe Beck didn't come running because he was making Rodney a celebratory haggis?

So, after two whole episodes, I have just one word for the slashability of Aquarium Atlantis, and that word is Shepbeckay, baby.
