Gratitudes

This seems like a good habit, and a good antidote to a just-crushing-enough-to-be-very-distracting headache. So! Five things I'm grateful for tonight:

1. My apartment with heat included in the rent is nice and toasty despite the cold wind that is literally rattling the windows.

2. My new book is selling well and nine lovely people have reviewed it on Amazon!

3. This long and complicated and lovely Teen Wolf a/b/o fic which made an excellent antidote to all the adulting I had to do today.

4. The grocery store had the tub of freshly-packed shredded roast chicken AND the bread freshly baked with roasted garlic, so my inability to actually assemble components into proper meals did not deter me from having a tasty and semi-respectable dinner tonight.

5. The lovely [personal profile] alby_mangroves' really good and helpful beta on the fic I will be posting Very Soon Now, once I am done carefully considering whether the Winter Soldier SHOULD be carrying more knives, and what I was even trying to say in that really muddled paragraph....
dira: Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Default)
A better week! Less coughing! Marginally less really distracting fic reading! More! Writing!

And a couple new super-enchanting epic fic ideas that I am definitely not allowed to start writing.

…Yet.

WIPs currently active: 7. Down by one from last week because!!! I finished the ageplay!! And somebody I will have run it by enough people to get up the courage to actually post it!

Words written this week: 6,394

WIPs that got no words this week: 1, Threetoo’s bathtime, but I swear I’m getting that one finished next.

WIPs that did get words this week:

Codename: Aluminum Bastard (aka broken dick epic): 159, but to be fair I had Bucky say a REALLY COMPLICATED THING. And then, you know, needed to go away and think about that for another week, I guess?

Born in the Blood: 590, and I am definitely… definitely almost sure what happens next. Really.

Slavefic #4 (the one about Steve): 305

Bucky/Steve consensual sexy ageplay nobody asked for: 4,276, and, did I mention, IT IS DONE. :D

Post-CACW woobie!Sam/Steve: 366

How the Winter Soldier Met the Hulk: 175

Gentle Dom!Steve/Bucky Omorashi PWP: 523

WIPs currently active: 6… maybe 8?

Words written this week: 3,284

WIPs that got no words this week: 2 - Born in the Blood and the slavefic.

WIPs that did get words this week:

Codename: Aluminum Bastard (aka broken dick epic): 552, new total word count 157,951, ticking along. Slowly.

Bucky/Steve consensual sexy ageplay nobody asked for: 777, new total 14,211.

Post-CACW woobie!Sam/Steve: 568, so close to turning the corner to the beginning of the end.

Pillow Box: 1,240, which was the entirety of #2 - One-Star Review.

[Here be stuff that may or may not actually be in progress, because I was out of sorts and working on random shit.]

Ace!Bucky/Demisexual!Steve: 174

The Hulk/Bucky story EVERYBODY asked for: 73. There were… a lot of things to figure out before I could write anything. Also the trajectory from HTP terrifying captivity mutual-dub-con sex to RIDICULOUS CURTAINFIC is… possibly a built in bait and switch that will satisfy no one?? But whatever, it’s my ridiculous self-indulgent Hulk/Bucky bunny and I’ve written 73 words of it so it’s probably premature to worry about its reception.

This week I treated fic writing just like professional writing, in that I got stuck and then (mostly) unstuck, deleted a lot of stuff, and didn’t do any work on it after 6:30pm or on weekends.

WIPs currently active: 6

Words written this week: 3,490

WIPs that got no words this week: 2 - Same two as last week, troublingly: Woobie!Sam and Threetoo’s bath.

WIPs that did get words this week:

Codename: Aluminum Bastard (aka broken dick epic): 1,170, new total word count 157,397. I got unstuck on the current chapter, I think, now I just have to… write it.

Born in the Blood: 1,162, and I finished Chapter 8! And posted it!! Now… to figure out Chapter 9.

Slavefic #4 (the one about Steve): 411, after deleting pretty much all the words I wrote last week. Still managed to be further forward afterward, but… not much, obviously.

Bucky/Steve consensual sexy ageplay nobody asked for: 747, and getting pretty close to… maybe… finishing? sometime? I think?

This was a better week in writing than last week! Still not as much as I would have liked, but when is it ever?

WIPs currently active: 6 (I finished something!)

Words written this week: 5,660

WIPs that got no words this week: 2 - Woobie!Sam and Threetoo’s bath (how do I have writer’s block on BATHTIME, fml.)

WIPs that did get words this week:

Sibylla ex Ampulla (formerly anonymous trash meme fill): 1,473 to FINISH IT and now it is posted!

Codename: Aluminum Bastard (aka broken dick epic): 901, finished a chapter and brought the total word count to 156,214. Now floundering a bit because I was on that chapter for two months and don’t quite know where the next chapter is going.

Born in the Blood: 668, now veryvery close to being done with Chapter 8, um, as soon as I figure out where Chapter 8 should end exactly.

Slavefic #4 (the one about Steve): 597, but I am a bit dubious about keeping them.

Bucky/Steve consensual sexy ageplay nobody asked for: 2,021, bringing the total word count to 12,602. Now the undisputed most disturbing thing I’m writing!

This week was not a good one for writing–partly for fun reasons (I was at [community profile] vividcon from Thursday evening to Sunday!!!) and partly for un-fun reasons (my anxiety got kicked into REALLY HIGH GEAR on Tuesday and it took me until Thursday to be functional enough to, say, spend a weekend interacting fairly normally with other people, let alone writing anything.) SO! Let’s see how far I got in a not-so-great week, shall we?

WIPs currently active: 7 (I decided to put the Bucky/T’Challa fealty kink on the shelf until the field is a little less crowded.)

Words written this week: 3,188

WIPs that got no words this week: 3 - Codename: Aluminum Bastard, the babyfic, and the ageplay.

WIPs that did get words this week:

Slavefic #4 (the one about Steve): 1,621, bringing the total to 31,086, but not actually bringing me closer to the end of the story due to exciting! new! unforeseen! plot development! /o\

Post-CACW depressed woobie Sam/Steve fic: 581, for a total of 5,177 so far. I am… not 100% sure what happens next, but we are sort of turning a corner somewhere in the near future.

Current anonymous trashmeme fill: 884, close enough to being finished that it is a bit embarrassing every time I work on it that I am not just. finishing. already.

Pillow Box Fill #2 - Bathtime: 102, which is what happens when I get antsy because I haven’t written ANYTHING in DAYS and then sit down to write something and realize I still do not have the wherewithal to actually write for more than a few minutes. Still, better than nothing!

…Because sometimes people wonder what I’m writing, and I thought it might be useful to post regularly-ish about where all my words are going? So! A status update on the WIPs I’m juggling.

WIPs currently in progress: 8

Words written this week: 6,761

WIPs that got no words this week: 2 - Codename: Aluminum Bastard and the Bucky/T’Challa fealty kink epic

WIPs that did get words this week:

Born in the Blood: 1,144 words this week, so I’ve now got a little over 3,200 words of Chapter 8. One scene left to write before I can actually post a new chapter!!

Slavefic #3 (which I guess now is #4? the one about Steve): 1,003 words this week, so it now stands at 29,457 words. Two or three chapters to go, maybe another 10-15,000 words? Oh man, it is weird to think about actually finishing this, it has taken soooo looooong. But we’re getting there!

Bucky/Steve consensual sexy ageplay nobody asked for: 1,441 words this week, so it now stands at 10,040 words. Two major events left in the story, so maybe only 6-8,000 words before I can unleash this particular unholiness on the world, completing my stressed-out-spring trifecta of “Bucky is extremely vulnerable and Steve takes care of him” h/c stories.

Post-CACW depressed woobie Sam/Steve fic: 589 words this week, for a total of 4,595. I think I have reached the lowest point Sam gets to in this story, so now I gotta start inflecting upward, maybe another 5-10,000 words to go.

Current anonymous trashmeme fill: 1,258 words this week, maybe two or three thousand left to go. Mmmmm, fluffy post-trash-recovery porn. (Yeah, I am the most anonymous, you cannot possibly crack my code.)

Pillow Box Fill #2 - Bathtime: 1,326 words this week, none of which involve Threetoo being in the actual bath yet. I am not good at writing short tumblr ficlets that are actually short, guys. But now I just need to write the bath part, which cannot possibly be more than a couple thousand words, right? Like. 5k, tops.

Bucky’s broken dick epic (aka the WIP codenamed Aluminum Bastard): 41 Chapters / 155,153 words
Act III so far, spanning fffive? days of internal time: 8 Chapters / 31,653 words
Stuff remaining to write in Act III: Maybe... four more chapters? I’ve been revising my thoughts on where this Act ends and the next one starts.
Broken dick status: Agonizingly almost fixed but still not.
Acts left to write after this one: IV, and V. Which means we’re actually turning the corner into things… getting… better? Which is baffling, after over 22 months of writing everything being awful. I am consoling myself with some last-ditch awfulness before we turn the corner, but that corner is getting awfully close now.
Target posting date: IDK, probably before Infinity War? Right?

This week has been sort of peak "what nice problems to have @_____@ oh god @______@"

Saturday: received last edit pass on The Omega's Pack and also the second-round edits on the forthcoming gay Catholic vampire novel I sold to Less Than Three Press in June. Elected to focus on the really urgent priority.

Sunday: spent the day doing last edits/proofread/formatting/etc and then published my new gay werewolf book!

Cover of The Omega
The Omega's Pack, by Dessa Lux! This is the sequel to The Omega's Bodyguard, and wound up being twice as long (62,000 words) but I eventually got to paying off the promised full moon heat gangbang! :D

Monday: in between obsessively tracking sales of The Omega's Pack and a weird, stupid paperwork fuckup at work to which the phrase "or your employment will be suspended" was attached (it seems to be fine, but not the calmest Monday), finally read edit letter. Scream a bit about the scale of edits being requested in the second round.

Celebrate launch of gay werewolf book by going to dinner at Hamburger Mary's, where I score the server whose customer service persona is Your Sassy Gay Friend. He calls me 'girl' every time he speaks to me and it's delightful. Possibly he is bored. I am his only table.

Tuesday: Get back edits on overdue birthday fic and spend the day editing and getting ready to post:

Wednesday: is today! and I have a shit ton of writing to do on the thing I promised would be done on Friday. @__________@ And the meme fill that's been dangling two-thirds finished for weeks. And YULETIDE. OH GOD. AND MARVEL POLYDAYS.
WHAT HAVE I DONE. @__________________________@

ETA: OH HAHA RIGHT NOW I REMEMBER. Today I found the article where I'm quoted on the Mary Sue! (I knew this was going to happen, I just didn't know it was happening this week.) And created a commenting account just to apologize to the guy in the comments who said, "Hey, a friend of mine writes Transformers porn and it's really well-written!" I am sort of tempted to post the entire text of the email I sent to the author of the article, because I really liked the point I made at short-essay length better. *g*

Anyway: an extra dose of @____________________________________@ for my week.

1. Young Miss Mentis is two weeks old and I am babysitting her (along with the faithful hound) so that Iulia and B could go out and see Spectre together.

We spent some time rocking in a dark room, as she's been a bit sleep-resistant all day (I read her some bits of The Martian off my phone, which seemed a somewhat more appropriate thing to share with her than the next chapter of The Silent World Within You, which I am reading for the first time this weekend and loving extravagantly. But now she has consented to sleep in her swing, and the faithful hound is lying directly across from her on the couch, keeping watch over her, so I can have both hands free to catch up on email and wildly procrastinate about doing any writing.

And so: posting here!

2. I am compulsively bouncing myself in the chair that I'm sitting in (which does indeed bounce a bit). SELF. IT'S OKAY. YOU DON'T HAVE TO ROCK HER. SHE'S ACROSS THE ROOM BEING ROCKED BY A WONDERFUL MACHINE.

*continues rocking anyway*

3. So I've been spending a lot of time hanging out/helping out with the baby, is I guess what I am saying? Not a lot a lot of time--I live in a different city and work full time--but this has been my last three weekends. Which is awesome, although it does lead to being a bit scattered on Mondays, and writing a bit less than I'd like to, although I'm not sure there has really ever been a time when I was writing as much as I'd like to.

4. OTOH with the help of some appropriate daily goals on Habitica I've been writing quite a bit! I'm getting really! quite! close! to finishing my sequel to The Omega's Bodyguard (Dessa Lux), which will be called The Omega's Pack. It's currently about... 48,000 words, and hopefully will wrap up somewhere in the 55-60k neighborhood within the next week or so and I can start getting it ready to publish! :D

Fic writing is also thumping along--I finished Act II of the broken dick epic WIP codenamed Aluminum Bastard, which brings about a shift in tone away from, like, "sometimes happy but always with an undercurrent of secret misery" and it is, in the early stages of Act III, a bit bewildering to be writing things getting better.

(*still compulsively rocking while alone in chair*)

And I've gotten to the point where I've written a few bits of my Yuletide story and am convinced that it will be totally manageable and not really that long at all, so, you know, remember this for later when I'm sobbing about it on December 19 or whatever.

5. The movie started nearly two hours ago and Iulia has not yet stepped out of the theater to text me and ask how the baby is doing so hopefully that means either Spectre is good or she is having a bit of a nap in the theater.

6. I put this on Tumblr the other day, but in case people over here are also interested: The first scene of The Omega's Pack, introducing Rusty's BFF Nick. (Woobie Alert.) )
dira: My home is not a place ... it is people. (Home is not a place)
1. [personal profile] iulia's baby has arrived! Young Miss Mentis was born before my very eyes on Thursday at 1:50pm, pink and healthy and generally perfect even if she has not really gotten the hang of either eating or sleeping so far. It's early yet. Iulia herself was a total champion throughout 21 hours of labor and a couple of days at the hospital, and now everyone is home (including me, downstairs on the couch for the night while Mom, Dad, Young Miss and the faithful hound sleep upstairs (I think they're sleeping, anyway, it's quiet right now) (I hope they're sleeping)).

2. Still haven't read Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen, but, after getting the rundown of important developments from Iulia... well... I feel inspired to get back to writing my Aral/Arkady series?

3. Except oh man SO MANY OTHER THINGS TO WRITE.

3a. YULETIDE IS HERE! THE YULETIDE BUNNY HAS COME! THE YULETIDE BUNNY IS FIFTY FEET TALL, I AM EXPERIENCING FEAR.

3b. Writing for money is... a thing I should be doing more of, but the last five days have been kind of distracting. NaNoWriMo starts in... oh, hey, half an hour ago, actually. So I'm hoping to do 50k of money-writing this month, and hoping that that gets me back on track. Auntie Dira needs to make some money to buy more board books!

3c. And then there's broken dick epic. And babyfic. And Ylixia's birthdayfic. And a trash fill. And someday I'm gonna write that story about Bucky who thinks he's gonna suddenly and dramatically self-destruct after the fall of HYDRA. And and and.

4. Gosh new babies are A LOT. Of EVERYTHING.
dira: Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Default)
Swiped from a bunch of people on my flist, and I figure I didn't quite go anywhere but other than fic updates I've been pretty quiet, so...

So what have you been up to?

I'm just about three months into being on the Adderall, which has been super helpful although not miraculous and not, like, magically removing all constraints on my ability to accomplish things. ALAS.

So: I've been up to writing, mostly, a lot by any sane standard but still not as much as I'd like given how many irons I have in the fire.

Also, thanks to the slow accumulation of flist people's mentions of using treadmill desks to knock some of the sedentary rust off, I finally accepted that my preferred mode of exercise is Pretending I'm Still On My Couch. I can't actually manage a treadmill desk right now--shared apartment, logistics, etc.--but I got myself a gym membership and have started popping over there about six mornings a week to walk briskly while playing games on my phone or reading ebooks or fic, etc. And, hey! That whole "excercising gives you more energy" thing turns out to be true! I just... had to be on Adderall for a month before I had the starting energy/general wherewithal to find that out.

Oh and I joined OKCupid. I have this sort of baseline desire to get into some sort of romantic relationship, but I hate Going Out And Doing Things With Strangers, and I kept feeling bad about failing at that part and finally realized that I don't like going out and doing things with strangers and there are, theoretically, other more efficient ways to meet compatible people who want to do dating-type things.

Mostly this has demonstrated to me that I am already operating at full capacity to deal with other human beings. *eyes unanswered OKC messages* So... that's good to know?

Oh and there was VividCon! ...which also demonstrated to me that I am already operating at full capacity to deal with other human beings. I had been feeling vaguely anxious and stressed about the con beforehand, which is... not usually how I feel about VVC, and then I got to the con and felt stressed and overwhelmed and signally failed to hang out with all the people I wanted to hang out with, and finally wound up hitting the Introvert Wall late Saturday/early Sunday and bailing out early (after [personal profile] iulia took charge of my Sunday afternoon volunteer shift and told me to just go home).

Oh also I tested positive for strep throat on Wednesday and had a couple of days off work. Hooray antibiotics!

Major life changes? Same old same old?

Writing for money! Writing for money has been kind of a large feature of the last few months, coinciding pretty strongly with the arrival of my constant sense of being overwhelmed and operating at full capacity for dealing with other human beings. The extra disposable income is really nice, but it turns out that having what amounts to a second job takes up time/energy/spoons/writing brain. WHO KNEW.

There are further major life changes on the horizon--Iulia is expecting her first child in October, which means I will be a godmother! And also the only vaguely local extended-family-ish person my godchild has around, so I expect some delightful life upheaval there.

And not unrelatedly, I am at long last getting Really Quite Serious about relocating to the greater Chicagoland area, hopefully in the first half of 2016.

With all of that going on/on the horizon it is... perhaps less surprising that the new Cap 3 promos were legitimately upsetting to me this week as a reminder that my fannish territory is also going to be undergoing an upheaval soon.

What fandom are you in/do you spend most of your time in?

Marvel/Cap 2! I have fallen especially into the Hydra Trash Party corner of the fandom. Content aside, it's one of the most old-school-fan friendly parts of the fandom in terms of being able to connect with a community of fans--there's a chat room, a DW kinkmeme with a chat post, and an identifiable group of writers and artists who are pretty reachable via Tumblr.

But, you know, also making Bucky cry is fun, even if it leads to things like, "Man, I am eventually going to post 25k of male lactation fic with a complicated pairings situation and alarming set of warnings to the AO3." Could've been worse, really.

Where do you hang out online?

Twitter, Tumblr, trash chat, that other chat room I've been hanging out in since 2005, Skype IM which is apparently a thing (I'm dsudis on there), and AIM/YM/etc.

What are you reading?

One of the exciting things about extra disposable income is that I feel okay casually buying ebooks--I use the Kindle Cloud Reader & Kindle phone app, and virtually the only books I've finished since May have been short-ish romances: Sarina Bowen, K. J. Charles, Alexis Hall. Right now I'm reading Courtney Milan's The Duchess War, and then I need to read a book that was made into a movie for my staff summer reading competition at work. I might just read The Martian for the third time.

And also fic? I haven't been reading huge quantities, but there's a pretty steady accumulation in my AO3 bookmarks.

What are you watching?

Every scrap of promo media related to The Martian! :D :D :D

Oh and I just started on Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries which is DELIGHTFUL and reminding me that I am 100% an easy mark for canon het. Phryne/Jack!!!!!

What are you making?

My desktop note that I use to track WIPs currently has ten items on it:

Original/for money: Vampire novel that I am waiting for edits on from Less than Three (Dira Lewis); ridiculous tropey gay werewolf ebook (Dessa Lux); sequel to vampire novel (Dira Lewis); tropey het ebook (redacted).

Fanfic: Aluminum Bastard/broken dick epic; Babyfic prequel to the trash kidfic; trash kinkmeme fic; more different trash kinkmeme fic; Spy Game post-movie fic; sequel to that fic I wrote where Steve's wearing a pink silk chemise.

So... I need to write faster. In conclusion.

What are you squeeing about today?

Well, literally today is Iulia's baby shower, so: impending godchild!

A little more generally: The Martian, Miss Fisher, Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie's most recent press appearances (THEIR FACES. THE BELT GRAB.)

If you could rope old fandom friends into a new fandom, it would be...

THE MARTIAN!!! READ IT. JOIN ME IN BEING EXCITED FOR THIS MOVIE FOR ENTIRELY NON-SEBASTIAN-STAN-RELATED REASONS. JOIN ME IN JUDGING PEOPLE WHO INTEND TO SEE THIS MOVIE FOR SEBASTIAN STAN.

I should really watch/read/dive into _______ and then come talk to you about it!

THE MARTIAN. It's a quick read! There are adorable/hilarious promo videos!! I CAN TALK ABOUT THE MARTIAN FOREVER.

What else is on your mind?

I really need to trim and file my nails. And also I need to see if I can lure Iulia and her husband to the Original Pancake House for giant apple pancake breakfast tomorrow morning before we trek back to our side of the Lake with all the baby shower loot. Hmmmm.

Bucky's broken dick epic (Codename: Aluminum Bastard): 100,192 words
Act II so far, spanning 6 days of internal time: 44,510 words
Events remaining in Act II: 6.5
Acts after this one: 3. Acts. hahaha ha ha. /o\
Target posting date: April 15, 2016. (Which is to say: three weeks before US release of Captain America: Civil War, which will put this a full two movies away from canon instead of one + Ant-Man.)
Confidence in hitting target posting date: hahahaha ha ha WHERE IS THE GIN.

I'll just. Be lying on the floor questioning my life choices.

(Today was actually a good day for working on this story but OH MY GOD I SWORE NO MORE QUARTER MILLION WORD STORIES AFTER THE LAST QUARTER MILLION WORD STORY, AND I MEANT IT. THANKS, BUCKY.)

The thing about writing long stories—at least for me, at the speed I write and the length I write and with my brain’s particular propensity for being a machine that produces enchanting ideas that all want to be 200,000-word stories—the thing about writing long stories is that it requires discipline.

This is just the way the arithmetic of writing long stories works out: on a lot of the days you spend writing a long story, you are plugging away in the middle of something with the excitement of starting long behind you and no hope of ending. On a lot of those days it is not your favorite of the stories bouncing around in your head. On a lot of those days you don’t want to work on it, or you have lost all faith in it, or you darkly suspect no one wants to read it. (I’m not asking for reassurance here: I’m just saying, this is the inevitable way things go in my brain, over time.)

Some days are good, some days you have a clever idea or you are writing an exciting! big! thing! but a lot of days you’re kind of just plugging away—writing something necessary, or something that will turn out to be someone’s favorite bit six months from now, but on any given day when you’re writing a long story it’s just putting one foot in front of the other, laying down more words, sticking with the thing you’re writing in the faith that eventually you will come to the end of it and you will have produced a long story, because there is no other way for me to produce a long story.

...This slightly grim writing thought brought to you by the game of Steve/Bucky 2048 I just played, hoping it would let my brain rock-tumble its way toward some productive thoughts on any of the things I really need to work on today. Instead I had a really! important! insight! into the emotional arc of the A/B/O marriage of convenience fic I’m not writing. Thanks, brain, but I’m still going to have to work on a bunch of other things today instead of that.

So I noticed yesterday that I haven't posted around these parts since the last time I announced a new story, which was... February 13.

Time flies when you're figuring out exciting new ways of maximizing your writing output that mostly boil down to "set word count targets" and "actually try really hard to hit them". Shortly after last posting here I hit the point where I had four daily word count targets for myself, writing four stories simultaneously (two had a target of 1000 words/day, two had a target of 500 words/day and there's more stupid minutia to it than that but no one cares except me). This resulted in me writing over 76,000 words in February, which was GREAT and FUN and, uh, led to me neglecting every other facet of my life to a probably wildly unsustainable degree but hey! I got 76,000 words written in February! And I'm at 23,000 so far in March, so I assume that the wheels are about to come off some aspect of the rest of my life in a really dramatic fashion to derail me. Until that happens: writing as hard as I can.

One of the things devouring 1000 words/day is my [livejournal.com profile] extreme_bigbang story, which is just about to tip over 50,000 words and also, hilariously, just about to arrive at the scene where I originally wanted to start the story. I swear the first 48,000 words of setup is totally interesting and enjoyable! Alpha readers support me in email!

I also suspect that it's going to wind up being more like 150,000 words than the 120 I was originally expecting, but... 150 is okay. I can handle that. I can totally write another 100k by June, right? Ahahaha oh God.

Another thing that's been eating up words (500 a day, ish) is the third story in my Just Stay Alive series, which finally collapses the Steve/Sam & Bucky/Sam situation into the OT3 I was always aiming for. I kind of had to... rip out a whole bunch of the story at one point, go back and rewrite and jam ripped-out bits back in. It was messy and a bit demoralizing. But now it's at 38,000 words and SO CLOSE to being done. SO CLOSE! Three scenes! THREE SCENES AND I KNOW WHAT ALL OF THEM ARE. I MAY ACTUALLY MANAGE TO POST THIS BEFORE AGE OF ULTRON JOSSES IT INTO THE STONE AGE/BEORE THE FIRST STORY IN THE SERIES IS A YEAR OLD. :D

There have been various other (Captain America) stories taking up slots in my set of goals, but also a significant chunk of my writing has been going to... my shiny new alter ego (link goes to an only moderately NSFW tag on a VERY NSFW blog).

I suspect that "kinky ebook porn" is not really what any reader who ever told me I should write original stuff was thinking of, but at the moment it's a lot more fun than trying to write a novel or anything vaguely respectable, so I'm giving it a whirl. (It's... it's really fine if it's not your thing. "Kinky ebook porn" is just another weird fandom/subgenre/meme I've wandered off into and if it doesn't interest you, no harm done. But if you have a jones for small-town-sheriff-meets-lonely-young-werewolf with glowing eyes and daddy kink, HAVE I GOT A THING FOR YOU. *g*)

...So I figured I should keep it going, and lo! A convenient meme!

From [personal profile] riverlight: When you see this, share 3 random lines from 3 WIPs.

1. "Bucky is just a name," Steve snapped, unable to hold it in any longer. "Your name now, your name before."

2. "You're doing fine," Steve said, keeping his voice as steady and gentle as he could, "but can you tell me why you're doing that right now?"

3. "The regs don't say anything about sodomy," Bucky said. "Just wondering what the penalty is for that these days."

Scope note: Anonymous exchange fics are included in the Year in Review for the year in which they were revealed, so this post includes my Yuletide 2013 stories, revealed on January 1, 2014. To my surprise, it also includes my Yuletide 2014 story, which was revealed before midnight in my time zone on December 31, 2014.

This year I posted 32 stories in 10 fandoms totaling a little over 407,000 words, which surprised me--it topped the total for 2008, the year I posted Missing Persons, which accounted for 250,000 words all by itself. I didn't have one such enormous story this year, but one novel-length and six novella-length fics plus assorted mid-length stories add up, apparently.

Titles this year were quoted from The Mountain Goats (4), Paul Stookey, Guys & Dolls, Fiona Apple, The Decemberists, Shakira, Fall Out Boy, Dar Williams, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, U2, Josh Ritter, and The Police.

So on Sunday night I finished (!!!!!) writing my underage Teen Wolf hookerfic! It stands at 120,089 words and has yet to be betaed (or even... looked at, toward the end there) but OMG DONE.

And I started canon review for my Yuletide story and I'm really pretty sure my plan for this story is going to work! So! December is going SMASHINGLY.

(Except for, speaking of smashing, how I still don't know whether my car is totaled, twelve days after the accident, but, you know. I'll take what I can get.)

WINNING!

So the main thing is, I won NaNoWriMo! I wrote 50,000 (actually 51,352) words of underage Teen Wolf hookerfic in 30 days! Good job me!

The story now stands at 103,524 words and... is not done. But I have reached the beginning of the end! And I figured out a thing so I was able to drop a whole sequence from the end, so I only have... five bullet points left! And three of those are probably a single monstrous continuous POV scene! I AM GOING TO FINISH THIS STORY AT SOME POINT. IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN. SOONISH.

Ahem. So! I won NaNo! And wrote 22,000 other words of fic on top of that! November was an unparalleled success!

I mean, okay, I also got into a car accident on Thanksgiving, on my way to my parents' house for dinner, which rather derailed my family's Thanksgiving plans, but no one was hurt, my insurance deductible fits on my credit card, and dinner was three hours late but not otherwise ruined. So that worked out a lot better than it could have.

Also I haven't started my Yuletide fic, or even canon review, yet, and holy shit it's December so there are less than three weeks left to deadline, but that's okay. I HAVE A PLAN.

So, uh, given the above I am unlikely to succeed at any kind of daily posting in December, but if you want to drop a question or post-prompt in the comments, feel free! Or just stop by and say hi--it's exciting to see so many new posts on my flist again! :D

To the surprise of perhaps EVERYONE, I am actually still on pace for Nano! Yesterday's target was 30,000 words, and I ended the day with 30,724. (That's only the words that count for Nano--the total word count on the hookerfic right now is 81,253.) Even better, the end is sort of in sight! I'm into the last set of stuff that happens in the middle of the story, before the end starts kicking in! I'm not going to make it too far into the end by the end of November or the 50,000-word mark, and frankly I'm a little unclear* about how the end even works, but. Ending! It's gonna happen! I'M GOING TO FINISH THIS STORY YOU GUYS.

The thing that actually kind of blows my mind about my Nanowrimo productivity is that, in addition to writing 30,000 words in 18 days for my Nano story... I've also written about 17,000 words of other fic in those same 18 days. So in case anyone was wondering how strong is my fixation on Bucky Barnes: strong enough to compel me to write a total of 47,000 words of fic in 18 days. THANKS, BUCKY. I reward you by... having two different trash fics in progress right now. But also a story where totally nice things happen to Bucky! Um. That one is progressing slower than most, but still.

I am also also somehow cultivating a bit of a... social life? In amidst all of this? Going places, meeting people. A bunch of it is Nanowrimo-focused write-ins, but some of it isn't, it's just me actually getting out and being social. I'm a little scared that I'm going to hit December, stop frantically juggling all of this, and just collapse and do nothing at all, but... even if I do, I'll have written lots of stuff and met lots of people! So. ONWARD!

*I somehow got distracted in mid-sentence and initially typed "happy" for "unclear," which is a typically optimistic Freudian slip from me.
