daveamongus update: He's back in the States now, and was about to board his plane from Baltimore to California when he got off the phone with my dad. His unit's expected to stay in California about a week, then be released from active duty back in Indiana sometime next weekend. If all goes to plan, his reserve duty will end at roughly the same time, so he won't have to worry about any further call-ups.
