If it's Friday afternoon, I must be searching Math Reviews...
Just came across the review for Introduction to rare even simulation, which, okay, I initially misread as rare event stimulation. In any case, my first thought was rare event like sleeping with your brother the FBI agent rare?
So of course I actually started reading the review and promptly found that this book works "from the point of view of the probabilistic theory of large deviations." And I of course thought, large deviation like sleeping with your brother the FBI agent large?
In short, math is naughty. And I am going to the special hell.
But not as much so as the kids who came in while I was working at the Museum, typing circulation cards at the typeriter. "Whoa!" they said. "A typewriter!"
"Yeah," I said, expending all the verbal wit I had at my command after twenty minutes at the goddamn typerwriter. "Well, we are in a museum."
"Ha! Yeah! That thing belongs in a museum!" one said, and they continued to repeat variations on this theme, and laugh at them, the entire time they were loading up the outgoing mail.
