So, ever since I moved into this apartment, September of 2001, I've had a display of pro-magazine rejection letters tacked up over my bed. They were points of pride - look, I wrote something and submitted it and everything! Granted, nothing got accepted (hey, I was 16-19 years old, gimme a break...) but, I was trying! I was going to be a pro writer! I was so proud of having actual handwriting on some of my rejection letters!

But, uh, past tense. I've been hanging onto and staring at and, god help me, displaying, rejection letters since I got my first one, when I was in high school, and, y'know, I'm tired of it. I don't really want to look at form letters telling me my work's not good enough anymore. I'm taking them down.

Maybe I'll use the extra wall space to put my map of England back up. Or I could print out some of my favorite feedbacks and display those with actual pride and not whatever inverted shame made me put up rejection letters on my wall in the first place.
