if ever there were a moment that called for a poll...

... this would be it. Alas I am poll-less just now, so I will have to rely on people to actually comment a bit instead of clicking a radio button (and it would SO be a radio button).

Ahem. In the last day or so I've finished reading Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade, "Lord John and the Haunted Soldier" and "Lord John and the Hellfire Club." (Yes, in that order. It worked for me.)

And then I clicked over to Diana Gabaldon's blog to see whether the promised Lord John and the Scottish Prisoner might be forthcoming anytime soon, only to discover that A SEVENTH JAMIE AND CLAIRE BOOK IS DUE OUT SEPTEMBER 22. !!!!!11!!!ELEVEN!

So, ahem, what with one thing and another (LORD JOHN. JAAAAAAAMIEEEEE. CLAAAAAAAAAAAIRE. LOOOOOOOOOOORD JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHN. ♥♥♥), clearly it is time for rereading of the Outlander books, of which I have definitely reread Outlander at least once, maybe twice, but I'm not sure I've ever reread the others at all since first reading them. (Possibly The Fiery Cross, just before A Breath of Snow and Ashes came out?) And as much as I love Outlander I'm really impatient to get on to Voyager. (At the moment my recollection of Dragonfly in Amber is, "Oh God that's a lot of angst. Like. A lot. Of angst. Like maybe too much angst for me, actually. OH GOD, NOT IN THE FACE.")

So. Tell me, circle, in your helpfully unbiased opinion: where do I start rereading?

  • Outlander for all the first-time-y goodness and the completeness-of-reread?
  • Dragonfly in Amber for ... Fergus? And... oh, and Roger! And Bree of course! And all the parts that aren't angsty that I'm not remembering right now? And the payoff for the angsty parts which must surely be delicious?
  • Voyager for the <33333333333333333?

Not that I am, you know, leaning in any particular direction, but if I am going to undertake A Reread of such epic proportions, maybe I should do it properly and not in quite such a dessert-first manner?

I'm sure I read on her site like 2 years ago that it'd be out in September of that year. LOL to Ms Gabaldon and her sheer wordiness and inability to keep it simple (and god how I love her stories! All the twists and turns and engrossing characters!).

I'd say start at the beginning. I think Voyager is the only one I have not reread, probably because it's the only one I don't own. Yeah, start at the start, and then you'll get all excited and sucked in and the angsty parts of Dragonfly in Amber will not be so bad, and Voyager will make up for it again. Maybe.

YAY OUTLANDER. "I respect and affirm your life choices," man (as my friend Rachel used to say)—if work isn't keeping you busy enough, bravo you!
