Is it just me, or is this a kind of strangely homoerotic ad for GE Jet Engines?

And also, who the hell is watching cable of an evening and needs to see ads for jet engines? I mean, it sorta almost made sense when I lived in DC and saw ads for particular systems of five-ton trucks and helicopters on the Metro. Arguably there were people riding the Metro who were actually involved in those decisions. But who's watching Countdown and buying vaguely gay jet engines?

I saw that ad! I -- am kind of weirded out to say that I didn't even process it as strange at the time. Television is destroying my brain, clearly, because it is A) a weird ad and B) a weird ad to put on cable. What?

Well, GE is in a wide number of product areas, some of which get down to the consumer level, so any sort of positive re: GE is probably good on a brand level.

And GE jet engines can only do well if people are willing to fly, and there have been a few high profile plane crashes lately, so making people in general feel good about jet engines is, arguably, in their purview.

But it does seem more romantic than is really called for with regard to airplane parts, yes.

Yyyyeah, logically it must be like those ads about Dow Chemical employing nice people who coach Little League or whatever--it's just so specifically about the jet engines and the star crossed love of the guys who make them and their single perfect tears.
