Has anybody read Lauren McLaughlin's (Re)cycler? I just finished it and I'm pretty sure I liked it except I am all like THAT IS A HECK OF A CLIFFHANGER FOR THE THIRD BOOK.

WHICH DOESN'T EXIST. AT ALL.

Like, she's on Facebook telling people she authorizes them to write book three.

So...

Anybody want to step on into the comments and plot book three? Because what the hell why is there no book three?

There's not going to be a book three?! But, I was assuming that was when everything else from the first two books was totally going to come together and pay off!

(I wrote a Cycler story for this last Yuletide and I totally on purpose *refrained* from writing a big Book-Three-ish story because I thought she was going to! Sheesh.)

She's not! I paged back through MONTHS of her blog to find snippets of the third novel she just completed and it's ... something else entirely.

I am trying to tell myself that maybe they didn't sell that well and she couldn't get her editor to go for a third book in the trilogy, because the idea of ending the story there ON PURPOSE fills me with RAGE the more I think about it. But, no. No third book forthcoming.

...Okay, I see I may be alone in this, but I thought the ending was, you know, relatively tied up. [SPOILERS] Jack's finally become a real boy, and Jill and Tommy are back together. I - I am satisfied with that? In the canon, I mean. I would love some fan fiction, with more of a future for Jack and some details on Jill.

I guess what I wanted out of the story--and what I felt the story was setting up to some extent--was for the story to finally carry the metaphor of Jill and Jack's condition all the way through into "Jill accepts that she has a genderqueer identity and a dissociative identity disorder" and deal with that. I mean, I love Jack to pieces but he's not a real boy: he's the persona who arose when Jill was so traumatized by being male part of the time that she had to repress all memory of it. Jill came out to Ian, and it seemed like Ramie was hinting that what she really wanted was a relationship with both halves of Jill and Jack--but then Jack rejects what acceptance he does get from Ian, and Ramie's still in London, and while Tommy's come to New York he hasn't spoken to Jill yet and and and....
