Yay for writing! And your cross stitch project looks pretty. When you do that, would you say that you push the needle through with the pad of your thumb, or do you think it would be feasible to hold the needle between thumb and forefinger? I've been wanting to take on a sewing project, but I lost half my right thumb in an industrial accident, and I'm not sure about handling a needle yet.

I don't have my project with me right now but I don't think I ever push with the pad of my thumb (the needles are small enough that it would hurt to push on such a small surface), so I think it would be totally doable! Also, friend who I am hanging out with suggests that you might be able to place a thimble over the remaining half of your thumb to give yourself a bit more length/leverage/pushing surface there?

A little late, but the other good thing about cross stitch is that the fabric comes pre-hole'd. So unless you're stitching really small (where the floss takes up more of the hole space so the last stitch is harder), you don't need too much pressure to make each stitch. If you want to try, maybe pick up a kit with 6 or 8-count Aida cloth (numbers = squares per inch, bigger number means smaller grid), since kits will usually include everything you need except scissors and maybe a hoop.
