At long last!

Many thanks to Lynnmonster for beta, to oaknfell for advice on San Francisco which I have nonetheless probably managed to mess up in inventive ways, to Rubynye for cheering this on, and to everyone who's been encouraging this for the last two and a half years (TWO AND A HALF YEARS YOU GUYS), especially my local Nanowrimo contingent who were blithely accepting of the person writing pornographic Teen Wolf fic in their midst.

The Sexual Assault tag/warning is for a specific (not Derek/Stiles) incident in Chapter 5. A more detailed description is in the end notes. (That said, Stiles is 16 and Derek is 21-22, which means every single sex act in this story both on-screen and off is statutory rape and consent is problematic in an overarching way throughout, but all the actual sex on-screen between Derek and Stiles is had with Stiles's affirmative, if fiscally negotiated, consent.)

Story title is of course from "Roxanne." Punkin Chunkin is available on YouTube and should be a part of everyone's Thanksgiving traditions, and track #8 on My Chemical Romance's first album is called "Early Sunsets Over Monroeville." This story takes place before Season 1 of Teen Wolf in a somewhat calendrically confused mashup of 2010 and 2011, but at least there is only one full moon every 29 days.

Oh God, you guys, it's finished. o.O

"No," he repeated impatiently. "I'm not a cop. I'm someone who wants to exchange my money for your sexual services. I was told you were in that line of work."

"I, uh, yeah, sorry," Stiles said. He glanced around again and then up--the full moon was almost directly overhead. Just one of those nights, maybe. "Yeah, I am. I do that."

To the surprise of perhaps EVERYONE, I am actually still on pace for Nano! Yesterday's target was 30,000 words, and I ended the day with 30,724. (That's only the words that count for Nano--the total word count on the hookerfic right now is 81,253.) Even better, the end is sort of in sight! I'm into the last set of stuff that happens in the middle of the story, before the end starts kicking in! I'm not going to make it too far into the end by the end of November or the 50,000-word mark, and frankly I'm a little unclear* about how the end even works, but. Ending! It's gonna happen! I'M GOING TO FINISH THIS STORY YOU GUYS.

The thing that actually kind of blows my mind about my Nanowrimo productivity is that, in addition to writing 30,000 words in 18 days for my Nano story... I've also written about 17,000 words of other fic in those same 18 days. So in case anyone was wondering how strong is my fixation on Bucky Barnes: strong enough to compel me to write a total of 47,000 words of fic in 18 days. THANKS, BUCKY. I reward you by... having two different trash fics in progress right now. But also a story where totally nice things happen to Bucky! Um. That one is progressing slower than most, but still.

I am also also somehow cultivating a bit of a... social life? In amidst all of this? Going places, meeting people. A bunch of it is Nanowrimo-focused write-ins, but some of it isn't, it's just me actually getting out and being social. I'm a little scared that I'm going to hit December, stop frantically juggling all of this, and just collapse and do nothing at all, but... even if I do, I'll have written lots of stuff and met lots of people! So. ONWARD!

*I somehow got distracted in mid-sentence and initially typed "happy" for "unclear," which is a typically optimistic Freudian slip from me.
dira: Allison Argent, smiling delightedly (Allison - Smile)
I did say I would report back, didn't I? I think I even had some adorable notion of posting every day in November, but then I had a busy weekend and then such a Monday and then Election Day (let's just... not talk about it) and, whoosh, we're on the fifth day of Nano! Nearly the sixth, it's taken me so long to get around to posting!

As of the end of day five I've got 8,389 words written, which puts me exactly 55 words ahead of Nano-winning pace and brings the current total word count of the hookerfic to 58,918. Basically every day since the first has been an exercise in doggedly forcing myself to write enough to get to the target word count, which I guess is less than ideal in terms of the joy of writing, but on the other hand it's working and I'm getting writing done and moving this story along, so. So far so good?

(Tonight's writing was mostly done at a general-purpose Nanowrimo write-in at my local coffee shop; I listened to 1989 about four times in a row and eventually did notice that I was sitting in a public place, closely surrounded by other people, frowning thoughtfully as I studied my fingers in between writing bits of a fisting scene. AN EXCELLENT AND PRODUCTIVE EVENING. PS HAVE YOU NOTICED THAT KNUCKLES ARE HUGE AND NOT VERY COMPRESSIBLE.)

My level of optimism that I'm actually going to finish this story in 50,000 words is... guarded. At best. Given that I've been on the same sex scene for like three days now. (It's a super deeply THEMATICALLY IMPORTANT sex scene, though. As ever.)

Anyway, in the spirit of not letting Tumblr have quite all the fun, here's a bit of the story that I shared over there today:

Page 111, in which Derek has asked to cross a line... )
dira: Derek Hale, alone in the woods and shirtless as usual. (Derek - alone in the woods)
So I was all set to post about how I have come up with this clever NaNoWriMo plan for this month and then noticed that I have a "pseudonanowrimo" tag and realized that, ha! I have had this plan before, EIGHT YEARS AGO, jeez I've been in fandom a long time.

Anyway, same plan, but this time I'm not in grad school and not going to New Jersey and/or Boston for Thanksgiving--oh man that time I went to New Jersey for Thanksgiving was ALSO EIGHT YEARS AGO, I AM OLD--ANYWAY.

So just like eight years ago, I have this epic fic that I meant to have finished by now and haven't, so I'm going to try writing 50,000 words of it, hopefully the concluding fifty thousand words, in a month. This time around it's my Teen Wolf Derek/Stiles underage hookerfic AU, which is roughly half written. I'm playing a little game on tumblr with people naming page numbers and me choosing a number and posting a snippet from the corresponding page--page 19 and page 33 are already out--so hopefully that will help me coax myself through the next thirty days of, woe is me, writing hookerfic porn.

(Then I looked at my outline and the next line has a date because I worked out the timeline fairly meticulously and then "fisting?" so... you know I'm not sure I've ever written that before? NEW EXPERIENCES EVERYWHERE.)

Also I am really tired--I went to my local NaNoWriMo group's midnight write-in/unofficial kickoff last night, and, see above re: being super old, I am way too old for this staying-out-til-two-in-the-morning business, I've been rather pathetically exhausted all day. Luckily I got 1700 words done at the write-in, so I'm already on track for today. Unluckily I have yet to be able to brace myself to look at what it is that I wrote last night while sitting in a Denny's at 1AM.

So anyway, that's my November NaNo adventure so far. Will report back.

Also, not super relevant to the above but I got my Yuletide assignment and I WON AT YULETIDE ASSIGNMENTS THIS YEAR, THIS IS THE BEST EVER, I AM SO EXCITED. At least when I am not about to curl up on [personal profile] iulia's couch and fall asleep, anyway. I am excited in spirit. The flesh is ooooold.

So it turns out that once I stop having some specific thing I'm supposed to post about every day I... stop posting. But I thought it might be nice to check in over here at the journals; I still haven't really gotten the hang of actually interacting with people fannishly on twitter/Tumblr, so I might as well stick around here and talk to my fellow internet dinosaurs. ♥

So, things I've been up to since I posted last:

Having a girlfriend! )

Having Teen Wolf as my primary fandom. /o\ (Spoilers!) )

Writing, kind of erratically. )

Reading! Books and fic. )

Which reminds me that [personal profile] verity showed me a nine-minute Merlin vid to "I Would Do Anything for Love," and I had [personal profile] astolat and [personal profile] cesperanza's vid to the same song running through my head the whole time, because apparently watching a nine-minute Merlin vid is a thing that I will totally do for love. ♥ ♥ ♥

February 25: [personal profile] sapphoisburning asks, Have you any thoughts on what Teen Wolf would be like if it were set somewhere...colder? Somewhere where hockey was more popular than lacrosse? Ya know, more Detroitier?

Well, I should say right up front that my brother, going to high school in suburban Detroit and growing up as a huge hockey fan, played lacrosse in high school. It's a lot cheaper than hockey, which is often a concern for high school kids, especially, say, the sons of single parents in blue/pink-collar jobs. So even if you put the show in Detroit or its suburbs they could, I will attest, still be playing lacrosse.

Then there's that "Detroit or its suburbs" question. I can further attest that, having done most of my growing up forty miles outside of Detroit, you can get plenty small-town without going too far. I definitely grew up with woods around me that could perfectly well have harbored weird reclusive families of werewolves, a werecoyote, whatever. So if you just want to set the show in the greater Metro Detroit area--close enough to commute to a high school where you play lacrosse but far enough out to have woods--then you can just swap the California license plates for Michigan ones and Beacon Hills is basically exactly the same place, just snowier in the winter. I mean, there's nothing that strikes me as especially Californian about the show so far; certainly not, say, its demographic makeup.

On the other hand if you put the show in Detroit, well a) a lot more of the characters better be black--Detroit is all of 12% white--and then b) well, now you've made a generic small town setting into a very specific urban setting, so hopefully you're engaging with that in some interesting ways. Derek's various squats over the seasons have a HUGE range of possibilities (omg werewolves in feral houses, yes) (and then [personal profile] sapphoisburning linked me to this bigfoot sighting; clearly the werewolves would have a turf war on their hands from the get-go). I wouldn't expect much better than ruins porn but, Jesus, at least all the abandoned spaces in Beacon Hills would make some sense if they were actually Detroit. WEREWOLF FIGHTS IN THE BOOK DEPOSITORY AND THE ZOO ON BELLE ISLE AND THE PACKARD PLANT. GO.

Anyway. So the show would be just as terrible as it is but in different ways and if it got me glimpses of Detroit I would watch the shit out of it and then write fanfic about Derek rehabbing a Boston-Edison mansion for the pack and making jam out of the gooseberries growing wild in vacant lots.

Shit I really want fic about Derek Hale being a gentrifying hipster on the urban prairie now. /o\

February 20: [personal profile] kass asked me to write about wolves.

The thing about wolves, essentially, is that they are simultaneously soft and cuddly and dangerous killing machines. That is the id-appeal of them to me. Psychic wolves and wolf-shaped werewolves more so than actual wolves, of course.

I first got acquainted with psychic wolves when I read A Companion to Wolves shortly after it came out, and on the first reading especially, I felt very much like the target audience for the book in a way that I didn't feel like the target audience for most fantasy or science fiction I read: it was queer feminist hurt/comfort that put a woobie boy front and center for me to love. In the course of time I read the second book and got rather less enchanted, but by then I had already begun on the long road to writing psychic wolves into Generation Kill, so they were in a way mine now, and disliking a book about them could not make me stop loving psychic wolves.

Adding wolves to GK was a way to do a bunch of fun things in that universe: I could have a world where DADT was not a big thing, and homosexual activity was an inherent part of military service, and still build a situation where there was a reason Nate and Brad really, really couldn't have a relationship while serving together. It also allowed me to make literal and external the "warrior spirit" that Brad talks about in the miniseries (totally unironically, oh Brad, ♥) and generally up the stakes in a bunch of situations--Trombley isn't just a weirdo, he's a flashpoint for the whole unit.

Also, so many wolf-cuddles. ♥_______♥ Heat-shack sex was really just a hurt/comfort-y bonus.

I am likewise super into the actual-wolf-form of werewolves because a) so much more aesthetically pleasing than the Teen Wolf ~beta shift~ with the sideburns and whatnot, and b) did I mention wolves can be cuddly. The Boy and the Beast was basically just a 117,000-word ode to how great it would be to cuddle with a wolf, because, did I mention, cuddles are relevant to my interests. As are wolves. :D

February 6: [personal profile] verity intones the dread magic words: DEREK HALE FEELS

Derek is My Guy so hard it's not even funny, he just--I agree with Hoechlin, here:

Derek tries so hard, and so much of the canon we have for him is Derek at the worst times of his life. He's flat and humorless and uncommunicative in the first two seasons? His one remaining family member and pack member, his alpha of six years, was just horribly murdered and left in the woods for him to find, and he is surrounded by people he can't trust not to torture-murder him, and the few people he tries to make some connection with refuse to trust him. Derek's mistakes have been punished so incredibly hard, and he has tried and tried and tried so hard to build himself a pack, to weave back together the remaining fragments of his family, and none of that has worked for him, and he has been surrounded by so much violence and death--some of it of his own making but none of his own free will--and somehow he just keeps getting up and coming back for more and trying again and again.

I just really want someone to wrap him in a blanket and tell him it's okay, he's not alone, he can take a rest. I want him to be able to trust someone that much. I want him to be able to kiss Stiles without keeping one eye open to watch for the sudden but inevitable betrayal. I want him to be able to laugh without it looking like Tyler Hoechlin forgot to act.

I just want Derek to be okay. My OTP is Derek/Someone Who's Good To Him, and that is really all I want for him, even if the someone who's good to him is just himself, at some point down the line when he can maybe forgive himself for everything he's done and have some compassion for the scared kid he was and still is, and just be all right, be safe and content and have a life that isn't defined by constant mortal terror.

There are still some dates open later in February if anyone wants to suggest a post! :)

February 5: [livejournal.com profile] cattraine asks, So what would happen if GK's wolf brothers Brad and Nate stopped by Beacon Hills on a full moon night?

Hmmm. So Nate (looking full-bore civilian although vaguely familiar) and Brad (in civvies but still with his hair clipped tellingly short) wander into a diner in Beacon Hills with Frost and Bo on a full moon night. Strangers with wolves, not in uniform, ring a few bells, and before long the sheriff has come by to have a cup of coffee and piece of pie standing up at the counter; his brother, a mid-sized gray wolf named Smokey, wanders over to politely greet the strange wolves and see whether they're aiming to make any trouble. Bo and Frost amiably make the acquaintance of this local pack-leader, and a few minutes later the sheriff realizes he recognizes Nate and Bo from televised Veterans' League Capture the Flag games--the DC-Area Recon Veterans have gone to the national championships three years running with Bo on the team. The sheriff gets an autograph and paw-print for his wolf-mad son, Stiles, and wishes the shieldmates a good night before he heads out.

Uh, there are no werewolves in the wolf-verse, is the thing. So the full moon is not a very big deal. :)

dira: Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Default)
Hi there!

Thank you so much for writing me a story! I think I put my general approach in my request:

I'm mostly a Derek/Stiles girl, but I also love the Sheriff to pieces, and I'd love fic about him being fatherly to pretty much anyone--Derek or Isaac or Stiles are favorites, but if Cora or Lydia or Boyd or Erica are your favorites, I'd love them to get some fatherliness with the Sheriff. I do prefer his name to be John, but I can work with whatever your head canon is.

Derek is the character of my heart, and I would love any fic about Derek Getting To Have Nice Things, whether that's a day where things go right or a pornfest with Stiles, totally up to you.

I prefer my Isaac more on the woobie side, and anything about Isaac and Derek being pack-ish would make happy as hell. Isaac getting to be with Scott and Allison would also delight me, and again I'm happy with anything from shy glances to wildly kinky sex shenanigans.

(I will just add now that my one exception to wanting the Sheriff to be everybody's not-the-sexy-kind-of-Daddy is Derek. The Sheriff can totally be Derek's sexy kind of Daddy, if you're into that, as long as Stiles is nowhere near that situation and it's still Something Nice For Derek and the Sheriff still being basically a good, caring kind of guy.)

(Also if you can find a way to do basically positive Derek/Isaac, given the was S3 went, I am down with that. S2 AUs are fully acceptable.)

Ahem. If you have any other questions about my likes/dislikes/etc. please feel free to check with [personal profile] iulia (iuliamentis on twitter and tumblr). She knows what I like better than I do.

And, most importantly of all, have fun and write a story that makes you happy, and I will be happy too! :D
