Things to get excited about:
Blondo is on a UPS truck driving around in the immediate vicinity of where I live, right now! (Kind of pointlessly, since neither I nor the roomies are home to sign for him, but still! 7:30 tonight at the distro center, I get to pick up my puter!)
Calgary beat out the Canucks in OT! This is the first time the Flames have won a playoff series since they won the Cup in 1989! Flame on! (I get to cheer for them for about another twenty-four hours, and then they officially become The Enemy for round two, but for now... Flame On!)
I was also rooting for the Bruins last night (Wicked Intense!) but they got beaten out by the Habs, and, ah, well. Montreal's Original Six, and Canadian, so. Props to them, and (with apologies to
askye) I hope to god that beating out #2 means they're ready to beat out #1 as well. Allez Habs!
Also - somewhat disturbingly, judging by the look on
iuliamentis's face - I appear to have instantaneously memorized all the words of a Molson Canadian commercial that was airing on the CBC, the very first time I saw it. (Why don't I drink American beer? Why don't I buy a Moroccan snomobile? Why don't I eat a Japanese hot dog? Why don't I wear Italian hip-waders? Or Jamaican snowshoes? Why don't I drink American beer? Because I. Am. Canadian!) But, dude, that is quite possibly more national pride than I personally have felt in years, if not ever, packed into a thirty-second beer commercial.
Iulia and I were speculating about why overt displays of American nationalism strike me as creepy, while Canadian nationalism makes me all happy and wistful for a country of my own that I could be so proud of. Iulia thinks it's because American nationalism = war, while Canadian nationalism = have another cold one. I think she's probably on to something there.
