For the first hour or so of my first actual class of my master's program (OH GOD I AM A GRAD STUDENT) I wrote down exactly two things, both in the margins of my notebook:

Charlie bites
his nails.

BRING
CAFFEINE
The first of these was in reference to this post, in which Barkley mentioned her fear that sooner or later Charlie's rapid scribbling on chalkboards with tiny stubs of chalk would lead to the nails-on-chalkboard phenomenon. My professor set a piece of chalk down on the table at the front of the room, and I very nearly had a Numb3rs-style math-flash, staring at it and pondering Charlie writing with chalk, the mechanics of squealing one's nails on a chalkboard, wondering whether my nails would make a noise (they're kind of soft) and suddenly recalling that one vid I watched once which included a closeup on Charlie's hands which demonstrated conclusively that he bites his nails. Voila, Barkley. No worries!
I imagine the second is self-explanatory. It will be unnecessary next week, however, because making presentations in front of the class, like any other utterly terrifying experience, tends to have a salutary effect on my level of alertness.
