home again, home again.
Oh, God, I'm HOME. Not that I don't love everybody I spent the last two weeks with, but I HAVEN'T BEEN HOME FOR TWO WEEKS OH MY GOD.
ahem.
Very belatedly:
yuletide! My wonderful wonderful Dead Zone Walt/Johnny story, The Definition of Stupid, was written by
tangeriner, who I adore! Thank you so very very much, Tangerine!
I myself also wrote a Dead Zone story for Yuletide: Sympathy for the Devil, Bruce/Johnny, for
rivkat. Many many belatedly-public thanks to
cesperanza and
terrio for beta!
Apart from my (seriously awesome, go read it if for some reason you haven't) Yuletide story, I got some other very cool Christmas presents this year: my mom made me a fleece blanket with a pattern of bookshelves on it! And I got BOOKS! The kind with PAGES! And many many DVDs! And a can of olives! And a Morley Chocolate Peanut Butter Block (from myself)! And
merryish showed me FIFTY-ONE episodes of CSI in three days! How awesome is THAT?
And now, because I know you're curious, the post road trip brain-dump:
Aaaaand!

* Technically, apparently, it's: To move or travel quickly, esp. in a motor vehicle. Freq. with advb. (phr.). Also fig. slang (orig. and chiefly U.S.). OED says it originated c.1930 but doesn't speculate on what the hell the originators were thinking.
** The Cure - The Lovecats and Thousand Foot Krutch - Move, respectively.

Many artists have songs that seem applicable to Don and Charlie after you've been driving through Ohio for more than an hour, including Phil Collins, Mike and the Mechanics, and Dido. But not Aretha Franklin. Seriously, in R-E-S-P-E-C-T, does Aretha actually sing the line "Take care of TCP" ? Who knew the Queen of Soul was so concerned with Transmission Control Protocol? And why is she leaving IP out in the cold? Who's taking care of IP? You know what would make a really inappropriately hilarious Grave Danger vid? "You've Got a Friend." Nicky! Keep your head together! And call their names out loud! And soon they'll be knocking upon the lid of your plexiglas coffinyour door!Speed Enforced From Aircraft? Seriously? How did barreling get to be a word for rapid motion toward a target?* I need to download that Cure song about wonderfully wonderfully wonderfully wonderfully pretty. And also that song where the only lyric I can remember is "move."** In the general vicinity of Pittsburgh, there are three radio stations nicknamed Bob, Froggy, and The Pickle. "Gloria," by Laura Branigan, is possibly the most awesome singing-alone-in-the-car song ever. What the fuck is Crep Tree Planting***? Not a thought so much as an observation: Apparently, if you are being transported by U.S. Extraditions Prisoner Transport down the Pennsylvania Turnpike and lunchtime rolls around, the driver/guard will stop and get you milkshakes from McDonalds. Also, he will be wearing, right there in front of innocent bystanders, a genuine thigh holster with a strap around his thigh and a big fucking gun in it, and his jacket will say WARRANTS DIVISION on the back. He will not appear to mind being checked out/gawked at by scruffy girls who've already been up for seven hours.
