Finally caught up with my page-a-day calendar, so here's yesterday's fun word origin:
WEARING DRAG: Men who wear women's clothing are said to be "wearing drag" because of an older style of feminine attire. Before short skirts appeared on the fashion scene early in the 1900s, skirts were long enough to brush or drag along the ground. In the world of theater, actors wearing long skirts coined the phrase, as their unfamiliar garb did just that.
