Okay, so, I'm writing a kidfic. And of course *I* like the kid and have no particular problem with writing a novel-length fic in which he's in 75% of the scenes - obviously, or I wouldn't be writing it - but it's occurring to me, with increasing frequency, that this opinion is probably not going to turn out to be universal.
So, I'm wondering, is there a way of identifying a Baby Sue? An original kid character who is taking over the story and annoying the piss out of everyone in his or her path? Or are all kid characters going to do that if they're around for more than window dressing?
Obviously there's a whacking big element of personal taste here - there are presumably plenty of people who just have no interest in reading about a story centered on a kid, just as they wouldn't a story centered on any other original character - and, and, and.
God, I have no idea what I'm asking. Do any of you know?
