things and other things.

1) Just had my first Muskrat Jamboree anxiety dream, in which I missed all the Friday panels and SLEPT THROUGH THE VID SHOW/DANCE PARTY. There was a serious moment of waking up and realizing, no, it's okay! MJ didn't happen yet! I didn't miss anything! Guys, DON'T LET ME SLEEP THROUGH THE PARTY.

2)

a) I love all Winchesters. They were ADORABLE. Oh SAM. Oh DEAN. Oh SMITH AND WESSON. ♥

b) Please tell me there will be lots of Terrible Life AU Sam/Dean? Because I could and would actually really happily read that. And possibly write some.

c) Okay. HERE'S THE THING. About a week ago, [livejournal.com profile] beccaelizabeth posted charts of all the speaking roles in Torchwood S1, breaking down the percentages of women and people of color who actually spoke on screen.

I was immediately inspired to do this for another show, realized Supernatural would be horrendously depressing, and started doing demographic counts while rewatching Stargate SG-1 (results so far: only medium-horrifying). But even having only counted about four episodes, it's made me conscious of who speaks and who doesn't and...

You guys, I would have to rewatch to be sure, but I am pretty positive that the only people who spoke in last night's episode were white men. I mean, who spoke at all, even a word.

Sam, Dean, Ian (Sam's work friend), Paul (first victim), the colleague who spoke to Dean at the scene of a death, the security guard, the Ghostfacers, Zacharias. Even the ghost was a white dude.

There was a woman in the elevator the second time Sam and Dean spoke to each other, who naturally did not speak, and there may have been a woman behind Sam when he went all Office Space on his phone, but no one but Sam spoke in that scene either. I think maybe the voice on NPR when Dean switched stations was female, but I refuse to count that.

I'm honestly not sure we saw any people of color anywhere onscreen. Maybe one of the emergency personnel Dean was speaking to after Ian died?

I didn't realize this until I was lying in bed last night (still debating whether the last Stargate episode I watched was a Bechdel pass or fail) because really, really, the whole time I was watching the ep I was all SAAAAAAAAAAAAM and DEEEEEEEEEEEEAN I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU but.

Wow. That was some pretty incredible silent fail there, show.
