some number of things make a post

1. I think I have been neglecting to say it because by the time I finish scouring everyone else's posts for things to beam and flap my hands at it doesn't need saying anymore, but: I LOVE ELEVEN. I LOVE AMY. And I am so excited about this arrangement where we get more of them EVERY SATURDAY. ♥

2. So I just watched "Mawdryn Undead," the first serial in The Black Guardian Trilogy and the first thing I've ever seen with the Fifth Doctor.

At the moment most of my reaction is AHAHAHAA OH 1983 WHAT. Although I do rather like Turlough, in a weaselly sort of way. And I'm a bit of a sucker for big blue eyes.

Also it seems to have given me a headache but I was multitasking so I won't hold that against it.

3. I also spent a good chunk of the weekend watching all three of the Edward Petherbridge/Harriet Walters Sayers miniserieses. For the most part I really enjoyed it because it was about eight hours of OH PETER and OH HARRIET and OH HARRIET AND PETER and MILES GOT OFF SO EASY REALLY and WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO PLACET? I was determined to be reasonable and not insist on a perfect one-to-one correspondence of film to book, but, seriously? You're messing with placet? And that wasn't even CLOSE, even if it had to be in English! ALSO? PLACET, GOD DAMMIT.

Ahem. No really, I'm totally fine, this is me being reasonable.

4. I realized, somewhere in the midst of all the watching and the subsequent need to reread everything from Strong Poison forward, that I somehow managed to never read Murder Must Advertise. OMG, new-to-me Sayers!!! I am so excited! (Pym! People using their middle names for sneaky purposes! Ahahaha it really never stops being about Spot the Bujold Referent!)

5. I am now trying to actually calculate whether Peter or Miles had it worse. I mean, Peter had to wait longer but I feel like Miles' life gets threatened a lot more. I suppose it also begs the question of whether Ekaterin or Harriet has it worse, but my instinct is that Ekaterin wins (loses) that one hands down. I mean, at least Peter kept proposing to Harriet in situations of reasonable privacy. Also, Harriet was only with Philip for a year. Thoughts?

3.) This is why I still haven't watched the adaptations. I mean, PLACET! These are the proposals my Latin comp professor used to teach the semantics of num, nonne, and -ne!

Also, YAY FIVE! YAY TURLOUGH! Just wait until you get to "Enlightenment"; it's its own special kind of crack. The Turlough chained to a beam on a pirate ship with a busty corseted pirate queen caressing his nipple with her knife and asking him if he's ever seen a man flogged to death sort of crack.

Also Five is the Oncoming Beige and I love him.

Also, the BRIG! TWICE! That was lovely. And orienting flashbacks from 1983 are even more hilarious than the flashbacks we get now.

And, ooooh, Turlough. You naughty thing...

Turlough!!! If it wasn't for K9 and Romana he would totally be my favourite companion. He's such fabulously sneaky little bastard. It's a pity the writers never really did anything more with him after Englightenment.

You haven't read Murder Must Advertise??!! You've got such a treat in store for you, it's one of her best books!

And I am halfway through Murder Must Advertise and ADORING it. Although I miss Bunter.
