Yuletide reveal!

This year I wrote three stories for Yuletide!

Firstly, my assigned story, for ladyvyola: Not Alone in the Dark, Under Jurisdiction. Andrej, Robert, and Joslire's first few days aboard Scylla. Betaed by the wonderful the_shoshanna and pomegranate02


So, I found this completely hilarious from the moment I was assigned and assumed that actual anonymity was right out the window from the beginning (I even titled the story with the last line of the song whose first line was the title of last year's Yuletide story, which, uh, was probably only a dead giveaway in my head). When I posted my Dear Yulewriter letter during signups, Vyola commented about always requesting Under Jurisdiction and we compared notes on what we wanted for our gift stories. I had noticed, in my obsessive monitoring of offers and requests, that Under Jurisdiction was 2,2--two offers, two requests. So when I was assigned Vyola, I figured she would KNOW exactly who wrote her story (and when I received an Under Jurisdiction story, I assumed it was written by Vyola--but no! ambyr wrote my lovely lovely gift story).

Anyway, I had a blast writing this story, including the parts where I fretted about how to classify it and what to warn for, which led to me saying things to friends and betas like "Well, okay, yes, there's an orgy, but that doesn't mean it's not gen! The orgy is mostly offscreen and the central characters aren't participating in it together!"

(The one warning on the story is for Graphic Violence, but I promise it's really okay; the other tags were Canon-Typical Violence, Canon-Typical Homoeroticism, Kissing, and Snuggling and Cuddling. Which are, as the tag indicates, canon. IN A GEN WAY. HONEST.)

This is the longest story I've ever written for Yuletide, and I was worried that I wouldn't have time to pull off the whole thing (and worried that it would wind up being longer). Initially I just sent the first scene off to my betas--and then I wrote like a fiend to get the next six thousand words done in a week, so there would be plenty of time for the betas to find things for me to fix, and for me to fix them. But this turned out to be relatively trouble-free, so I posted way ahead of the deadline, and started looking for pinch-hits....

Nextly, a Yuletide treat for nightcamedown: Sex on a Frozen River Mayhem, TV Commercials(Allstate Insurance - Mayhem)/Torchwood. Jack/Mayhem, Explicit. Mayhem, meet Captain Jack Harkness. Betaed by iulia and missmollyetc.


For people who are all like "Mayhem? Allstate Insurance? What?": Jogger Mayhem, and so on. I almost titled the story "Mayhem: Sex on a Frozen River" but during my ten-minute review of canon I realized that the canonical titling format placed Mayhem at the end, so there you have it.

I came pretty close to requesting Mayhem myself, and I got ALL EXCITED when I saw a request for it come across the pinch-hit list--and then I went to check the recipient's Yuletide letter, and it included in a list of suggestions, Mayhem, meet Captain Jack Harkness.

I wrote it immediately, that night, basically in one sitting, and posted it within twenty-four hours or so, and it still makes me giggle a bit. But, honestly, they are godlike elemental forces. THEY BELONG TOGETHER. IN A SEXY WAY.


And third and lastly for muji_crack, The Most Important Meal, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (2008). Joe/Guinevere. Guinevere and Joe go to breakfast. Betaed by holli.


After having it enthusiastically recommended by frostfire during VividCon this year, I finally watched Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day for the first time on December 18, after I had already posted two Yuletide stories. (I watched Kinsey for the first time the same day; it was a Good Day for watching movies!) And then, lo, there was a pinch-hit request for it while I was still all :D :D :D over it, and off I went to write just a simple little story about breakfast.

Then I ran into the problem of not knowing anyone, except Frost, who was incommunicado for the holidays, who had seen the movie--and so, possibly for the very first time, I went off to #yuletide and availed myself of a hippo, who hooked me up with holli. We managed to get the beta done in the middle of a lot of comparing of fandoms and sharing of Doctor Who squee and whatnot, and it was fantastically fun!

So that was my yuletide writing this year! Up next, the bibliographic control post for Fic Year 2010....

Now see, I hoped and suspected that you were my writer, but I could not assume because of my own personal Yuletide quirk* -- I never offer a fandom that I request. So I can't be sure that anyone else asking for Incredibly! Obscure! Fandom! is willing to write it as well.

*Huh. Not my only Yuletide quirk. I also never offer something I've already written and I never request something I've already received. Dammit. I got three different fills this year and I'm going to have come up with a whole new roster next year.

OH MY GOD!!! There are not enough exclamation points!

It was hilarious and perfect for the characters... and really, really hot.

Possibly the hottest snuff porn I've read.

Even the smug foreshadowing was hot. I could hear it in my head! It was perfect!

Thank you! I, uh, had never really thought of it as "snuff porn" before, but those lines get so blurry around Jack. *g*

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Mayhem's voice was a ton of fun to write, smug foreshadowing and all. :)
