PSA: Robin McKinley's Pegasus

Possibly everyone who could possibly be affected by this is already aware, since the book came out two months ago, but--it doesn't actually SAY anywhere that I can find, so I just want you all to know, in case you are all like "it's a book about a princess and her best friend who is a pegasus, I have a cold and want to read something lovely on my day off, how could this possibly go wrong?"

HUGE FLAMING CLIFFHANGER AND THE SECOND BOOK'S NOT DONE BEING WRITTEN YET, IS HOW.

I mean, don't get me wrong: it's about a princess and her best friend who is a pegasus! ♥♥♥! My buttons, look at how they are pushed just by the COVER! Yes! Yay!

There is nothing whatsoever that I didn't love about this book except for when I got to the last page and went WHAT? WHAT?! NOOOOOOOOOOO.

So. Just so you know: CLIFFHANGER. A LOT OF CLIFF. AND A LOT OF HANGING. I mean, would it have fucking killed them to say "Volume 1" or "Look for the sequel, forthcoming SOMEDAY" or "Watch out for that last page, it's a doozy" or something? o.O

...Anyway, if anybody has read the book please come squee with me so I will remember how much I loved the first 403 pages? Because Sylvi! and Ebon! ♥

Oh, wow, thanks for the warning! I've been catching back up on McKinley's books, and that would have been a nasty surprise, like if Sunshine had ended halfway through.

I think I saw that on the Amazon reviews and that's why I haven't bought it yet...

Thanks for the warning! I have it in my list of things to read, and I would have been upset by the cliffhanger, I'm sure.

Oof. Thanks for the warning. I know it came out months ago but I have been way too busy to read it yet but I wanted to. Now, though, I will feel better about postponing reading it until volume 2 is published. (And possibly reviewed by someone else to ensure it isn't also a cliff hanger.)

But at least it looks like there is a volume 2 in the works.

I really want a second volume of "Sunshine" but it looks like that was intended to be a single volume even though it left so very many questions unanswered. Sigh. I love it with a passion and re-read it often but, still, aargh.

So anyway, thanks for the warning.

I suppose it doesn't count as a sequel if she's just writing one book in two sections but frankly that's an increasingly common writer's trick that I'm real unhappy about. Publish the whole book, people, not just half of it! Aargh.

I think I'll probably take your suggestion and wait until 2012 to read the Pegasus books. So thanks again for the heads-up.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll put this on my wait to read until the next book comes out list. :) I've been collecting fantasy trilogies/series for awhile now, I'm hoping at some point a few of them will finish so I can begin reading. :)

oh man that's a long wait! yikes, I feel your pain. I've been waiting 14 years for the wheel of time series to finish.

Thanks for the warning. I have that book sitting on my TBR stack. After Sunshine's ending I'm going to save it until I've got vol 2.

Argh!

I threw the book across the room. Really and truly.
It wasn't so much a cliffhanger as the book just stopped.
There was all this build up, foreshadowing of Sylvi and Ebon's importance, growing evil in the land, etc. etc. and then, full stop. Half a book, indeed.
If the sequel never gets written, I swear I will never read another McKinley book.

BTW, her website now says: "Pegasus II. Coming 2014"

I really wouldn't read this one until the sequel is published!
