okay so the thing I said about not completely succumbing to Generation Kill, forget that

So I had two goals for today: watch all of Generation Kill and do all my laundry. I did both! And also accidentally cleaned up my entire living room searching for a piece of longhand writing which is probably still tucked into a folder on my desk at work. Oops.

I have one goal for tomorrow: do not randomly start talking like a recon Marine at work.

WISH ME LUCK.

I've mainlined the first 4 books in Tanya Huff's Confederation books in the last 2.5 days and am in serious danger of breaking into Marine references at any moment. I feel your pain.

ETA: I had actually read them previously, just out of order. I'm getting the timeline straightened out this time.

TANYA HUFF. YES! I love all her stuff! Okay, so maybe I don't like the second Keeper book as much as I liked the first one, or the Blood books as much as the Smoke books, but THEY ARE ALL WONDERFUL, YOU CANNOT TELL ME OTHERWISE.

RE: Inappropriate lingual patterns after exposure to media - put me in front of English fiction, and I start circumlocuting like nobody's business. Not super modern things, but Sayers and Doyle do it every time.

Yes, exactly. Of course, I hear books in my head when I read them, which is probably where the speech patterns come in; I pick them up just as badly when I'm talking to people. Fortunately my English customers don't seem to mind, and my Kiwi guildmates in World of Warcraft seem to think it's cute. Of course, they find the basic southern US accent -- I'm from Texas -- just as adorable, so maybe it's just me. ^_^

God, I wish I'd had that site when I was first writing fic. :(

LOL Best reaction to watching GenKill yet!! (Pics or it didn't happen.)

God, I love that show and the fandom so much. It's a gift that keeps on giving.

Ahahahahahahaha!

Yeah, at my work people have filthy mouths anyhow-- but that PLUS re-watching GK had enough influence that I accidentally swore multiple times in front of my husband's (very polite and mannerly) parents at our last family gathering. WHOOPS.

Your next task: read Nate Fick's One Bullet Away.

And after that, you know what happens *g*. WRITE LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER.

Um.

Did you ~ahem~ that show, and if so, can you tell me where I can do the same?

My main response to this post: YESSSSSSSSSSS. \o/

Also I think in re: talking like people written by David Simon, I did better at not talking like a Marine than I did at not talking like a Baltimore cop, but I do have a lot of trouble weeding an overabundance of "fuck" out of my vocabulary.

Also also I am so totally here for all your GK needs. SHOW.

OK, I totally blame you for sucking me into a new fic fandom--I followed your link to the soul-bonding fic (my bullet-proof kinks, let me show you them!), and then proceeded to read EVERY BRAD/NATE FIC AT THE AO3!!! Well, all of the long ones.

I haven't even SEEN this series, yet! Also, copy trying not to sound like a recon marine, with the added bonus that I have kids at home, so the stakes are pretty high.

Damn you...there's not enough fic out there!

Sorry, that's my comment up there--I didn't realize I was commenting anonymously, which I try not to do!
