Someone, somewhere wrote a story, or a semi-story meta post, or something, about the extra gear various members of SG-1/the SGC take along with them on off-world missions. I seem to remember there were tampons. And I need to read it again so I know who/what I'm maybe or maybe not shamelessly ripping off paying homage to, in this bit of this thing that I am writing. Rewriting. Frantically procrastinating about writing. Etc.

Ahahahaa oh god, less than three weeks now. SOMEONE PLEASE REMOVE GENERATION KILL FROM MY BRAIN FOR THE NEXT TWENTY DAYS. USE A TREPHINE IF YOU HAVE TO.

Oh, I think I know this! telesilla made a post quite a long time ago where she asked people for suggestions about what extra bits of non-standard equipment SG teams might take along with them offworld. I think she was brainstorming ideas for an SGA story she was writing at the time. Can't remember if tampons were specifically mentioned, though.

Synecdochic wrote about it in one of hers--City on the Edge of Forever?--but don't know if she ever mentioned the tampon bit either.

I thought it was City on the Edge of Forever! But the beginning part, talking about supplies, doesn't have it. Maybe it's somewhere else.

I remember the fic you're talking about, and I don't think it's City on the Edge of Forever, but I can't remember what it was. There might even be several like it from various flashfic comms - I would check those as a starting point, or maybe one of the ficfinder comms.

Thought for the day: if Nate Fick had gone to Georgetown instead of Harvard, he could have had Elizabeth Weir as an instructor.

PLEASE, I ALREADY HAVE THE WHOLE BUNNY ABOUT SECOND PLATOON BEING DRAGOONED EN MASSE ONTO THE ATLANTIS MISSION. DON'T MAKE IT WORSE.

Also, I was totally convinced it was in City on the Edge of Forever, and now I don't even know where to look. Ficfinder comms, though, I hadn't thought of that! I shall have to go locate a suitable one now. :)

Heh heh heh. But the timing is so terribly convenient! And Nate would be all, "I'm a civilian now!" and Elizabeth would be "That's perfectly okay at hte SGC! Besides, aliens! Interstellar politics! Competent leadership!" Meanwhile Sumner drools over Recon marines, and he fights with Elizbeth over who actually owns Nate, and everyone would get whiplash when Sheppard takes over because suddenly there is a blatant lack of a grooming standard and he is strangely badass for a zoomie!

(WHY NO, I HAVE NOT THOUGHT ABOUT THIS AT ALL MYSELF.)

Honestly I think the main reason I don't want to write it is I don't think I could do justice to all of the many things Ray Person would rant about in the Pegasus Galaxy. Starting with John Sheppard and never stopping.

It's a writing meta post I read not too long ago and there's this part:

"They all get the standard equipment by default, but Gate teams have always been encouraged to carry discretionary items, and the monthly informal Base newsletter always includes a bunch of good stories about how that one thing someone happened to have shoved in the bottom of their pack saved everyone's ass. After a few minutes, he says fuck it and asks the quartermaster to throw in a handful of tampons, two spare ampoules of tretonin, and a strip of Jackson's allergy drugs as well; can't hurt."
