Things that didn't happen this weekend.

The thing that did happen is that my little-but-not-littlest brother (#3) got married this weekend in Chicago, which meant I was actually almost local for a family gathering, which was exciting. It was a full three-day circus, from the nail appointment/rehearsal dinner/bowling on Friday to the all-day festivities yesterday, to brunch this morning before decamping from the hotel.

But anyway: things that didn't happen, or, more to the point, things I didn't do.

I did not break a hundred bowling, but also did not ruin my manicure.

I was not the one periodically yelling "Get some!" during bowling. That was Brother #2 (not the Marine, and I did not ask him if he's a GK fan--or maybe "Get some!" is also a bowling thing?) and his wife. I also did not ask them why they were saying it, or snicker more than a little bit. (Or make asides about it to [personal profile] iulia, because, as I am forced to keep reminding myself, she wasn't actually there for that part because we are not actually attached at the brain. Physically speaking.)

I did not actually travel back in time, despite my dreams on Saturday morning; it's just that I woke up in a hotel room with my parents talking in the adjoining room and it was LIKE I had.

I did not cry during my reading, which was excerpted and adapted from Oh! The Places You'll Go! but I did make other people cry.

I was not the one yelling "Kiss him!" when the groom went to hug the best man after his speech. That was Brother #4. (Brother #3 obliged with a brief peck on the cheek.)

All in all, an excellent weekend. And it only killed half a tank of gas. \o/

"Get some" is definitely not just a GK thing. I had that shouted in my ear at machine gun ranges by overzealous instructors back in 1999. As far as the military goes, I'm guessing it goes back about forty years or so, and has probably always been conflated with the sexual euphemism, in that way that violence and sex go hand-in-hand.

As a result of its age and military/sex link, it has pretty thoroughly permeated American masculine culture, especially competitive sports.
