Captain Vorpatril's Alliance

I read it! And now there are spoilers of a generally superficial nature.

Before actually reading the book, I peeked just enough at one of [personal profile] ellen_fremedon's posts about it to see an observation that it felt like fanfic, and when I was capslocking at people about it over IM, I kept saying THIS IS MY FAVORITE IVAN FANFIC EVER.

And that's basically how I feel about it. I loved it a lot, I am a sucker for canon het ships, and I think basically it's a story written by an Ivan partisan with the thesis YOU SHUT UP, IVAN IS AWESOME AND HE DESERVES TO BE HAPPY. And I'm okay with that! It was a lot of fun to read.

AND THAT SAID CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE PART THAT MADE ME GESTICULATE WILDLY AT MY COMPUTER SCREEN IN SHEER DELIGHT WHEN I GOT TO IT. BECAUSE I ALREADY CHANGED MY JOURNAL SUBTITLES TO "ALL ABOUT COMMODORE JOLE'S NEW SAILBOAT".

:D :D :D :D :D

MY TIN HAT, YOU GUYS, IT IS NEVER, EVER COMING OFF. Cordelia! Telling Ivan all about Jole's new sailboat in a chatty family update letter! Because when Alys and Simon visit Aral and Cordelia on Sergyar, naturally they all hang out with Jole! On his shiny new sailboat!

:D :D :D :D :D

Also, ahahahha, man, if Tej meets Aral and Jole she's going to KNOW. I have to figure out what to do about that, down-arc....

Ooh, I am so excited to know that someone is jumping in to Aral/Jole for the very first time. Enjoy the hell out of it! Then perhaps you will join us in the ranks of not-quite-sane shippers.

Yeah, I ended up suckered in, and spent about two hours reading the entire thing.

Not quite sure I buy into it, but it does fit into canon quite nicely, and I certainly see what all the chortling over Jole's sailboat was about [g].
