My other other fandom
FOOTBALLLLLLLLLL. (Which I hear, in my head, as the FOOTBALLLL! at the end of The System Is Down, explosion noises afterward optional).
Anyway: FOOTBALL! Give or take the annual Thanksgiving Day ritual of watching the Lions get beat real bad, and my vague antipathy toward the Packers because I live in OH GOD JUST SHUT UP ABOUT THE PACKERS country, I don't have a lot of feelings about pro football. But I went to the University of Michigan, and I was a student-section-season-tickets painting-my-face-on-Saturdays football fan, and my attachment to the Wolverines has held on through the, ye gods, ten seasons since I graduated, give or take the same creeping ethical dilemma I have with hockey over watching dudes get hurt, sometimes quite badly, for my entertainment. More so, since they're college kids. But leaving that aside for a moment: FOOTBALL!
After a few years there where they were really startlingly bad, the Wolverines are good again. Today's game was the traditional season-opening trouncing of an in-state school from a less-competitive conference, the kind of thing where, after the Wolverines were comfortably 50 points ahead, they started putting all kinds of freshmen out on the field to see how they'd do. Given the level of ambient stress in my life right now, it was really nice to sit back and watch a sporting event unfold into obvious and assured victory for My Guys.
Plus all my DVDs are packed, so I gotta take my entertainment as it comes.

Out here most people are Patriots fans, or perhaps Buffalo Bills. So the fact that I married a Packers fan (who I think became one because he loved the fact that the team is town-owned instead of corporation-owned, and that it's a successful franchise that's not in a major metropolitan area, IDEK) makes us a bit odd around these parts. I will try to spare you our Packers madness, though.
