In the ongoing linguistic data gathering mission that is my life, hockey commentators are a constant source of joy, producing such gems as: "Looking for an icing call, the Red Wings are," and "We're talking to Mario Lemieux at intermission, John Keating will," and "Just returned from a back injury, Brett Hull is." I think it's some kind of function of calling the game, the action being both more immediately apparent and vital to relate than who's actually doing it. Or possibly it's just that Kenny wants to be Yoda.

On the other hand, there's Three Doors Down, who sing the line "...since the last time that I've saw your pretty face," which I just can't figure out. They're from Mississippi - anybody know if "I've saw" is a regionalism? The war between my sense of language aesthetics and several semesters of "nobody speaks incorrectly, they just speak a different dialect," is a bit distressing.
