Why do you read slash?

I know everybody's taken at least one survey about why they read slash, and tried to pin it down for themselves, probably as an ongoing question. Gender roles, relationship dynamics, on and on.

That's not what I want to know. I want to know, what got you hooked? Did a particular person pimp you in? What story made you say Yeah, this is what I want?

First slash I read ever: Some scary non-con Mulder/Krycek. That's pretty much all I remember, Mulder being forced to go down on Krycek in an alley (I somehow doubt that narrows it down much), possibly to save Scully from some fate worse than death. Did not make me want to read more slash.

First slash I read deliberately: Jim/Blair PWP by [livejournal.com profile] mamadeb, after she mentioned on a mailing list I was subbed to that she wrote slash. I chose Jim/Blair because I'd actually watched the first few episodes of the series and knew who the characters were (and because I was totally traumatized by X-Files slash, above), and as far as I recall my reaction was: Huh. There is a whole extra step to sex with two guys. And then, unfathomably, I didn't read any more slash for four or five years.

First slash I read that made me keep reading slash: [livejournal.com profile] thelionforreal spent quite some time trying to make me see the sparkly popslash light, and finally succeeded when she sent me the link to the first installment of [livejournal.com profile] helenish's Guerillas series. Instant addiction. I was so obsessed I was telling my straight, male, deeply uninterested, housemates about Justin's little shoes.

First slash I read in my current fandom: to make a long story short, [livejournal.com profile] viggorlijah pimped [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza's "With Six You Get Eggroll," and although that didn't, for some reason, make me instantly see the light about Due South (okay, dude, I thought Frannie was Vecchio's ex-wife, that's how far I was from seeing the light...), six months later when [livejournal.com profile] ishihana recced "The Bodyguard," I was done for.

So there you go. That's why I read slash. What about you?
