Yuletide Letter actual
Dear Yulewriter!
Hi there! I am DELIGHTED that you love one of these things I love! Please, please remember that optional details are optional and write what makes you happy!
(Apologies of the lateness of this letter!! I did my request in the last ten minutes before leaving for the airport and then sort of. Forgot. That I still needed to do this bit after I got back home.)
Some things I like, not necessarily all in the same story:
-Hurt/comfort, heavy on the comfort, recovery from past/canonical Bad Things
-Domesticity, quiet moments
-Intimacy, sexual or otherwise, the sometimes hilarious weirdness of being so close to someone else, physically or emotionally
-Kidfic, characters interacting with kids, all varieties of accidental baby acquisition whether temporary or permanent
-Cuddles, blankets, coziness, etc.
-Characters being smart and perceptive
-Winter or holiday stories appropriate to the world of the characters!
DNW: Bummer stories beyond the sad stuff built in to canon. Sad endings or a focus on acute grief rather than healing. Action-heavy or plot-heavy stories.
Specific requests:
Critical Role: Aramán (Web Series)
Halandil Fang
I just love Hal!! Feel free to include any other characters, pair him with anyone or no one, from his childhood with Thjazi to his ongoing situationship with Thaisha and fascinating friendship with Bolaire to whatever’s happening next. Not sure if we’ll get any new episodes with him between now and Yuletide, but I’ll be trying to keep up, so no worries about spoilers!
Having now seen the episode that aired after signups ended: STILL SUPER INTERESTED IN WHATEVER HE HAS GOING ON WITH BOLAIRE, but also love love love Hal's concern for his kids and would be delighted to see him with his own kids, mentoring kids in the theater, co-parenting with Thaisha and Elodie (or doing anything else with Thaisha and/or Elodie). Really suspect that Azune wants a hug from Hal and that Hal would be only to glad to give him one (or more). Deeply curious about what a complicated relationship he had with Thjazi that he is handling each revelation with his brother with so much aplomb. Are they trying to put on a winter holiday panto in the middle of all the other wild stuff going on in the city?
DNW: Hal being more sad than he already is, Hal being lonely, bad things happening to Hal's kids beyond what a dad hug can fix.
The Summer War - Naomi Novik
Argent, Elithyon
I just want their own POV on their almost tragic romance!! I would love any looks at how this all looks to Elithyon, and how his feelings for Argent changed him.
I know, I know it's not their story, but I love the glimpses we get of their relationship and how Elithyon cares for Argent even as the seemingly inevitable tragedy is unfolding. Elves are so alien in this universe, and I would love to see how being truly close to Argent changes Elithyon. Also, easily the most hilarious candidates of any of my requests for an accidental baby acquisition situation, just saying.
DNW: Focus only on Argent's exile, bashing of Celia or Roric or the elves in general.
The Rising World Series - Martha Wells
Kaiisteron, Bashasa Calis, Ramad
I would love either Kai and Bashasa or Kai and Ramad, no need to actually include all three! After Queen Demon I am convinced that Kai and Ramad are going somewhere, so I would love to see how they might take some baby steps forward, and I am also DYING for more of Kai and Bashasa after where they were left in the past!!
Of course if you are feeling ambitious and want to do a present/past thing paralleling Kai's relationships with Bashasa and Ramad in some way, I would love that! But they are wildly different trajectories, so no need to get into that. I did come away from Queen Demon thinking that, in those last moments we see of Kai and Bashasa, Bashasa is 75% sure they just got engaged (or, more importantly, that he can eventually convince Kai they just got engaged) and Kai still has absolutely no inkling that Bashasa is flirting with him, so I would love to see how their relationship moves forward--whether it is explicitly romantic and/or physically sexual, or something more complicated. It seems like Kai has no particular gender feelings or feelings about embodiment, but I would adore seeing some exploration of that (and how Bashasa feels about Kai's body and gender and whatever else). Kai seemed comfortable with the idea of having human children someday, and I love the glimpses we see of Kai having been a quasi-parent/co-parent to some of the younger characters, so anything to do with that would be a delight.
And then Ramad! I am waving my little flag for Kai and Ramad Work It Out, so please no stories where Ramad is the bad guy or bad things happen to him. What they arrive at when they've worked things out is up to you, but I would love to see them be close in a way that Kai finds satisfying, bringing joy into his life that seems to have been somewhat lacking it since Bashasa's death. Again whether that is romantic and/or sexual, whether it is an intimate friendship that they both find rewarding exactly as it is, whether that's bringing Ramad home to Avagantrum and adding him to what is hinted to be a bit of a circus of extended and adopted family, I will be glad to see it!
DNW: Heavy focus on Kai's grief for Bashasa, anything bad happening to Ramad, Kai being unhappy or unable to have happy relationships.
