Ahh, another quiet evening at home with my roommates trying to smother each other with pillows.

What I actually wanted to say was: wheeeee! I went to the bookstore and got books! Actual books! Lord John and the Private Matter by Diana Gabaldon, which actually caused me to gasp with delight when I saw it on display just inside the front doors although I knew it was Out There, somewhere, and then, after switching bookstores because the first one isn't actually all that well stocked, three volumes of Sandman (II-IV, as I bought the first for my littlest brother for Christmas, and read it before I wrapped it). I'm looking forward to all of them, but at the moment I'm still reading The Hero and the Crown as Iulia is reading the Damar books for the first time (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] splash_the_cat! I keep forgetting to say, but. Thanks!) and, mmmm. Aerin and her horse. This book hit me on the fading edge of my extreme horsiness phase, and still pushes all those buttons.

We came home and watched "The Body" with the commentary from Joss, and, wow. I still cried at Anya's speech, one of the only places Joss fell respectfully silent (if you haven't watched the commentary track yet, the magic word is physicality, so brace yourself now, or assign it a very tiny sip in the drinking game) and got choked up in random other places and, of course, could not help thinking of my own mother, our contentious relationship, and the state of her health.

Also? Joss refers to the Higher Power as "The Sky-Bully" which was remarkably congruent with my own thinking, plus, y'know. Funny.

So that's been my evening. And now that the roommates each have their own candy cane, they're crunching away in minty peace, and we're all sitting on the couch together, and it actually is all quiet and nice.
