1) Have hired a new student. Yes, his "interview" was scheduled for nine minutes ago, and yes it ended four minutes ago. That's library student-hiring procedure for you. He doesn't start until after exams, so I have a couple of weeks to psych myself up and come up with training procedures. None of the other students I've ever hired needed to be taught how call numbers work.
2) As requested, I am stating here, for the record, that one of the many, many stories I will never write is the genderfucked version of the hockeyfic, wherein Fraser and Kowalski are female hockey players who get their big chance to play in the NHL when the labor dispute is solved by bringing in all-female replacement players. (But let me just say, a) that would be a novel solution to the labor dispute, and b) wouldn't it be cool if the NHL and NHLPA signaled their progress by periodically sending up colored smoke?)
3) Oh, sweet. My boss just left. And though we are a dysfunctional and noncommunicative office (my work persona: surly) I deduce from the fact that she shut off her office lights and was carrying both her purse and a great big binder that she will be in payroll automation training for the rest of the day.
4) There's an "ask me questions" meme going around. Everybody's doing it, so why not me? I believe the original language of the meme stipulated that you ask me five questions and that I answer them both truthfully and succinctly, but we all know I tend to play fast and loose with memes, so, whatever. Ask, don't ask, and I'll answer. Or not.
