I have a place to live in August! Which is good, becuase August is only two months away. This morning I talked to somebody where I'm going to be living (literally brand new building, cable and high speed internet included in the rent) and she's putting my lease paperwork in the mail today. I can now stop worrying about a) not having a place to live at all, b) getting stuck in a quad (i.e. THREE strange roommates instead of one), with or without the horror of having to share a bathroom, c) getting paired with an undergraduate. Now I have to come up with slightly more exotic things to worry about, like, what if my roommate is a psycho hosebeast? What if she smokes? Or eats all my food? What if she wants to watch Battlestar Galactica when I want to watch Numb3rs?

ahem.

Yesterday was a desperately depressing hockey day: cbc.ca reported, all at once, that ESPN has ended negotiations for NHL TV rights - guess which league commissioner decided he'd rather do without national US coverage than give price concessions? - that Rudy Giuliani may help fund the NHLPA's attempt to found a rival hockey league - which, I can't even talk about how horrible that would be, let's not get into it - that three Swedish NHL players have been suspended from their national team after being accused of rape - not the Swedes! - and that the days of the two-line pass may be numbered.

For whatever reason, I have decided to interpret all of this as meaning a deal is imminent. It's probably a defense mechanism. Or possibly I am feeling too happy about the whole housing situation to believe the NHL won't sort itself out.
