I notice I haven't said anything about hockey in a while.
Last night was a banner night for my hockey teams: the Caps and the Red Wings both lost.
Of course, the Red Wings lost 4-3 in overtime, earning a single standings point and taking their place in a five-way tie for best start in NHL history (25 points in 14 games) rather than setting their own shiny new record, while the Caps lost 8-1, with their doom pretty much assured by the end of the first period, when the Flyers scored on the Caps' power play. Or possibly assured before the game, when somebody filled out a roster for the night that lacked Dainius Zubrus, Petr Sykora, and left Olie Kolzig on the bench. In any case, it was ugly, and

strangecobwebs and I wound up watching a couple of episodes of the first season of the Dead Zone, because, really, rivers of blood are MUCH cheerier than Caps hockey, some nights.
I just remembered, as I was typing the above and thinking about how rarely it will likely happen that the Wings and Caps both lose on a given night this season, that I had a dream last night about going to the Caps-Wings game and realizing only after I'd gotten there that I'd worn a Caps jersey by mistake instead of my Wings jersey. Conflicting sports-loyalty anxiety dream, go me...
Anyway, even when everything else is falling apart, at least we can rely on the very special and beautiful love between a Czech goaltender and his favorite countryman.
