oh dear.
So, the good news: Jiri Fischer, 25-year-old defenseman for the Detroit Red Wings and a favorite of mine since he entered the NHL, is alive. conscious. breathing. speaking.
The bad news: Fish suffered some sort of seizure sitting on the bench, during the first period of the game, the remainder of which wound up cancelled in light of events. When![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
iuliamentis called me to tell me, I was on my way to the library, and thus further out of the Detroit sports loop than usual. She said, "Something very bad is happening at this game," and I thought she meant we were losing. I don't remember exactly what she said next, just that it featured the acronym CPR. I wound up walking down the wrong street, and thought for a terrible moment that my car had been stolen, before I realized that I'd parked it elsewhere this afternoon, and forgotten, wrapped up in waiting along with Iulia for the guys on the TV to tell us who it was, whether he was even alive. Iulia told me the guys looked dazed, scared, that two of them brought his fiancee across the ice to the bench to be near him.
Because I process everything through fanfic, at some point I thought, just like Ray.
