hockey! hockeyhockeyHOCKEY! PLAYOFFS!
Okay, so it has been FOREVER since there were NHL playoffs. FOREVER. But now the playoffs are coming again, yay!
Of course, they are coming without my darling Washington Capitals, who despite a valiant finish in the month of April (five wins in ten games!) finished fourth from last in the NHL, second from last in the East (take that, Pittsburgh) and dead last in the Atlantic Division. I am trying not to think about the prospect of a whole long summer without my Caps, but on the bright side it looks like Alex Ovechkin will be keeping busy with his second career as arent boy model:

Meanwhile, I've discovered something about having a team in the Eastern Conference: I can no longer cheerfully and randomly root for teams in the East on the basis of their Canadianness, membership in the Original Six, or how long it's been since they beat the Red Wings in the Cup Finals. Now they're all teams who beat My Caps, and if it were possible I would want them all to be eliminated in the first round. But the Canadian fans appreciate Alex's greatness (or are being nice to him because they want his phone number) and the Rangers have a cute Swedish baby goalie and
strangecobwebs likes the Flyers, so. I guess they're allowed to go on to the second. I guess.
The Canadian amnesty of course does not apply to the Edmonton Oilers, who are up against the Red Wings in the first round and therefore must be crushed without mercy.
