My good-luck-with-bad-luck streak continues: I just went down to my building's front desk to check back, as they told me to this morning, and see whether maintenance had been able to retrieve my keys from the elevator shaft. And they were sitting right there on the desk!
And not only are they there, intact, and not only did I not get charged for the sequence of loaner/lockout keys that gave me access to my apartment while they were at the bottom of an elevator shaft, but--
Apparently the raggedy little hole I'd punched in the corner of my building ID to put it directly on my keychain gave way, either in the fall or when they were retrieved, because there's a crack. Which I didn't notice immediately, because someone put the card back on my keyring after drilling a nice, smooth, professional-looking hole in the top for that purpose. Thanks, unknown maintenance guy! ♥ ♥ ♥
