Monday rectification effort starts now.
Moving on to something more productive than the topic of my last post: you guys, sometimes I am really, really, really slow to realize things.
Like, for example, I just realized in a burst of light on Saturday, May 1, in the year 2010, that Neville Longbottom is pretty much the archetype of everything that makes my favorite characters my favorite, and that is why I like reading good, long fic about him so much and think glumly that there is too little of it.
And then, also this weekend, also in the year 2010, I read Night-blooming Heartsease for the first time (I know! But I'm slow and also I used to be a lot more averse to deathfic, I guess.) and of course it was fantastically brilliant and I should have read it a long time ago but now I have read it and I'm not aware of any other Brilliant Neville Epics that I have been putting off reading so I'm at a bit of a loss.
I have read all the Lust Over Pendle stories twice, and I have read Helen's Theft of Assets, Destruction of Property at least three times, and that one - Strange Bedfellows? - where Draco is Neville's secretary also twice, so, um. If anybody wanted to rec me fic where Neville is awesome and quietly competent and gets the guy or girl or whomever, that would be fabulous.

Stories :)

"All of you sit down. Y-you came to hear what we had to say, so . . . you're going to hear it." Blinking a few time, Ginny looked up to find her tall, awkward friend standing in the middle of the circle looking for all the world like he'd really rather be facing a Snape shaped bogart at the moment. But still he stood there, his posture laced with a kind of steel that reinforced his words even as the nervousness in his voice undercut them.
"We've already heard what she had to say and it wasn't much," shouted a different heckler from the back of the room.
"Fine!" Neville snapped, "You want to go . . . go then, but you're wrong about one thing . . . this isn't just Harry's fight!"
When Removing Fears (Snupin; AU Snape adopted child!Neville)

Neville smiled at the dry words and headed to the set of shelves beside the desk and collected one of the bottles from the shelf. He unstopped it and turned to Severus, handing him the small bottle. Severus nodded his thanks before drinking down its contents.
"Do you want to come have dinner with us? Harry, Ron and Hermione are supposed to meet me for dinner at the Leaky Cauldron," Neville asked.
"I have too much work to do," Severus said.
"You always do," Neville said with a small sigh. "You spend too much time here with these essays; people are going to start to think that you don't like them."
"I don't."
There Are Days I Wish I Lived in a Romance Novel (But This Isn't One of Them)
http://asylums.insanejournal.com/hp_beholder/22236.html
(A romance of ordinary people)
"Close the--" The rest of the reproach choked in his throat as the large witch who was disturbing his peace elbowed the door shut with a pane-rattling bang. Her form and face were vaguely familiar (even he couldn't forget a figure that imposing), though it had been a few years since he saw her last, and he was mildly surprised that he no longer had to look up to meet her eyes. She was-- She was-- Merlin's trowel! Who was she?
Neville began pawing frantically through the haphazard stores of his memory. Slytherin, his year. She was early on in the alphabet, Bullock, Balustrade? Something like that. Anyway, they weren't schoolchildren anymore; he'd have to try to recollect her first name if he was going to attempt some semblance of cordiality. Martha? Matilda? She'd been in the Inquisitorial Squad, had intimidated Hermione more than she cared to admit. Minerva? No, that was McGonagall. Morgana? What was her name?
"Er, Mildred? I--"
"It's Millicent, Longbottom. Millicent Bulstrode."
And a self-promotion:
Rebuild What's Gone Unsteady
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4954517/1/Rebuild_Whats_Gone_Unsteady
(After the war, Neville helps Hogwarts rebuild)
"Why haven't you said anything?" he asked, quietly. Not even History had a name; he wondered what had happened to Professor Binns.
"People need Hogwarts to be strong. I did not think finding new staff would be so difficult." She sounded tired.
Neville wanted a better explanation. He had been part of the re-building effort for Hogwarts and had been looking forward to its reopening. She should have-- he stopped. This was not a hopeless situation-- he was well-acquainted with those. Neville looked back up McGonagall. She slouched just slightly over her papers. That cemented his decision. McGonagall had never had less than perfect posture in school. He could fix this. "I will find teachers for you," he said. "I can do it without drawing attention."
"I cannot ask you to do that, Mr. Longbottom."
"Professor Longbottom," he corrected her.
Re: Stories :)
Do you like evil Nevilles at all? I know a fic with one of those.
Re: Stories :)
I don't think Evil Neville would be my cuppa at all, but thanks anyway!
