A rec
Do you ever find yourself thinking, "You know, I realize Alys Vorpatril is awesome, but we never really get to SEE her demonstrating her full extent of awesomeness, or even how she got to BE so awesome, and that is a shame."
Or maybe sometimes you think, "Man, how DID Kou and Alys and baby Ivan get out of Vorbarr Sultana during Vordarian'sClusterfuck Pretendership?"
Perhaps you are just thinking, "I would like to read a story about someone who is having a harder day than I am, like, for example, she could be fleeing an occupied city with a two-day-old baby in her arms after giving birth to him in an alleyway. And she only has cloth diapers and doesn't know quite how they work."
philomytha has a story for you! The Hand That Rocks the Cradle is my new favorite Alys-fic although, admittedly, it does not have a ton of competition. Even if it did, it would be my favorite, though, because it is AMAZING. Go! Read!
(Kou is also pretty great! And ... oh, everyone. GO READ.)

I am on some kind of Vorkosigan kick lately--as much as I can be without actually rereading the books, but I seem to be writing fic in three directions at once--so it was delightful to see new! awesome! Alys! fic this week. :)

There is a fair amount of very good fic on AO3 for this fandom. (And then I reread Merry's A Maze of Twisty Passages, All Alike, which is catnip for us Ivan fans.)

And I saw your rec for the Miles/Gregor epic(s)--I find the whole idea of the pairing too fundamentally upsetting to go for, but every time I see someone rec it I have a few days of going "But it's supposed to be really really good! And it's the only really long fic in the fandom!" and so on. *g*
