A rec

Do you ever find yourself thinking, "You know, I realize Alys Vorpatril is awesome, but we never really get to SEE her demonstrating her full extent of awesomeness, or even how she got to BE so awesome, and that is a shame."

Or maybe sometimes you think, "Man, how DID Kou and Alys and baby Ivan get out of Vorbarr Sultana during Vordarian's Clusterfuck Pretendership?"

Perhaps you are just thinking, "I would like to read a story about someone who is having a harder day than I am, like, for example, she could be fleeing an occupied city with a two-day-old baby in her arms after giving birth to him in an alleyway. And she only has cloth diapers and doesn't know quite how they work."

[personal profile] philomytha has a story for you! The Hand That Rocks the Cradle is my new favorite Alys-fic although, admittedly, it does not have a ton of competition. Even if it did, it would be my favorite, though, because it is AMAZING. Go! Read!

(Kou is also pretty great! And ... oh, everyone. GO READ.)

HAH. I just stumbled across that yesterday, because I ran out of Vorkosigan stuffy by Lightgetsin and clicked on the fandom tag. That was excellent, and I need to comment.

There is a fair amount of very good fic on AO3 for this fandom. (And then I reread Merry's A Maze of Twisty Passages, All Alike, which is catnip for us Ivan fans.)

And it's the only really long fic in the fandom!

Um. Have you seen [livejournal.com profile] bracketyjack's Forward Momentum? I actually love the Miles/Gregor epic, but if you can't see that (and I totally get why someone would have trouble with it), that epic I've linked there is absolutely canonical through Winterfair Gifts. She ignores Diplomatic Immunity entirely, however. And if you like that story, there are also several shorter epilogue/coda type stories.

:-D You're welcome! I don't remember who recced that, but I am forever grateful to them. (I suppose we won't be hearing from you for awhile, eh?)
