Okay! Caught up on Teen Wolf!

So now I am all caught up on Teen Wolf and I have two thoughts, neither of them especially spoilery but I will put them under the cut anyway:



1. This is a show about how all teenagers are one trauma + one bad role model away from being total fucking sociopaths all the time.

2. Seriously someone needs to make a Lydia vid to the Decemberists' "Red Right Ankle" BECAUSE YES OKAY. JUST. YES.


Also I really love Derek's everything and will apparently defend him on all points about everything forever. This is not a spoiler for anything because ten years ago his name was Spike and I was exactly the same way.

Heh. Well, Derek knows that he shouldn't listen to everything his crazy uncle says, but on the other hand, Dr. Deaton hasn't been that forthcoming with Derek - and telling somebody that they're doing a crappy job when you haven't offered to help them? Not awesome.

There's motivating a person, and then just saying 'yeah, I have lots of knowledge, but since you're screwing up because you have nobody to tell you anything, I won't share.'

Then along comes Peter, who we know has ulterior motives, and YET, he is Derek's family. Who also KILLED the one member of his family he had to depend on.

So Derek is obviously going to be torn between trusting a psycho who is the remnants of somebody he loved, and pushing him away.

Oh, yeah. By 2x12 Derek seems to have mostly accepted Peter into his pack, although I'm sure there will be ongoing push-pull over his role.

I, uh, thought you were going to a Peter/Derek place? By analogy with Angel/Spike? Um. Oops.

I haven't seen this show yet, but I've read a small amount of meta (and fic, not forgetting that) [also, basically because of all the pimping you do not forgetting that!] and I'd kind of pictured Derek as Angel. So you think he's Spike? Interesting *g*

It's an analogy that definitely made sense at 2AM and now when I try to point to any particular thing about Derek that makes him Spike I can't do it. He exhibits a few Angel behaviors--notably the thing where he wears black and lurks around watching his chosen Important Teenager like a creeper--but he's much much younger than Angel or Spike, not just chronologically but in character. He doesn't really have Spike's chutzpah, but he has the essential insecurity which underlay it. Not self-loathing like Angel--Derek thinks being a werewolf is an excellent thing to be, that the bite is a gift, and his conscience is relatively clear--but Derek needs a pack around him, preferably at least partially over him, and doesn't really know what to do when he has to go about building his own. (So, I should specify, Season 4-7 Spike, not Season 2.)

You've described exactly where I was coming from (=Angel!). But I like your Spike analogy better. My limited knowledge is showing, but it's probably even simpler to say that he's a mashup of bad-boy-with-a-heart types, recycled once every ten years or so *g*

But, srsly, though, vidding is a horrible hobby and a huge timesuck and I shouldn't taunt you as if you should be vidding because you already have so much awesome other stuff (writing!) vying for your time and attention.

That said, if you wanted to learn what little I know, I would be glad to assist you in getting started.
