Good things about Tuesday
I did good things a week ago, and it comes a little easier tonight, which is surely a good thing all by itself, but here are some other good things about today:
1. Reading Blood of Tyrants. OH MY GOD I LOVE EVERYONE IN THIS BOOK. Especially people calling each other by their first names, OH MY GOD I LOVE THEM THE MOST. I have sixty pages to go DON'T SPOIL THE ENDING IN THE COMMENTS. YET.
2. Snyder's Butter Snap pretzels WHY HAVE I NOT BEEN EATING THESE ALL MY LIFE.
3. Singing along with If I Had a Rocket Launcher. Whatever's going wrong in your life, singing the line If I had a rocket launcher, some son of a bitch would die cannot help but be a satisfying answer, right?
4. Helping a kid who couldn't tell me his address, just the street he lived on and a nearby store, figure out the nearest library where he could get some Geronimo Stilton.
5. Realizing that, hell yes, the time has come: my niece is old enough for me to give her Baby Island and Misty of Chincoteague for her birthday!
Oh, and a generally good and useful thing that I just realized maybe everyone doesn't already know about: http://pinboard.in/popular/fandom is a great source for finding new fic in popular-ish fandoms--it's where I find pretty much all the Welcome to Night Vale fic I read, and obviously there's also a strong Teen Wolf presence, but anything that gets bookmarked by a handful of pinboard users in fandom will pop up there, so there's an array of fandoms represented. It updates once a day, which makes it a pleasant relief from the pace of tumblr and twitter. (Except that tag cloud to the right which seems to have no relation to the bookmarks on the page. I don't know when that thing updates.)

Okay, just to be clear because this happened to me elsewhere and I felt dumb: we are talking about Tharkay and Laurence here, right? Because I think there was some Granby first-naming, but he wasn't the one who MADE LAURENCE REMEMBER WHO HE WAS. And holy god, I need me some h/c for that whole 'tortured in a cave with no rational hope of rescue' thing, like right now.

SUPER, SUPER WORRIED. THIS IS NOT HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO GO. D:
And, yes! OMG every time Tharkay said "Will," I just flailed a little over the book! And Laurence REGAINED HIS MEMORIES as soon as he saw TENZING because LOVE. Possibly a very pure sort of love because I don't think Laurence is ready for shenanigans but WHATEVER, SO MUCH LOOOOOOVE OMG. And, seriously, Tharkay needs all the cuddles EVER.

Yes! And Tharkay was just so blatantly fond every time he said, in his way. I've having a lot of inconvenient (because I'm supposed to be writing my big bang) Tharkay feels and re-reading Black Powder War, and I'd forgotten how cynical and alone he was, but then Laurence happened and now wherever he goes in the world Tharkay has a friend. And keeps coming back to him, despite the increasingly epic distances involved. ♥
While Laurence and Temeraire are obviously the main platonic love story of the series, I kept thinking that Tharkay is good for Laurence in the same way -- pushing him to confront new ideas and perspectives. But where Laurence is often a parent or mentor to Temeraire, Tharkay's undeniably his own person, and the further he moves from his old blind dutifulness, the closer they get as friends. IDK, I just want the series to end with the war over and them going on adventures together.
...I guess this going on my Yuletide list, huh. :D

And, and, and. Yes. I just wand Laurence and Tharkay and Temeraire to settle this silly war and then go live happily all together in their pavilion in Australia, agitating for dragon rights and occasionally getting in adventures. Pleeeeeease.

I am a librarian! It was pretty great. I was like OKAY, NOT LETTING YOU GET OFF THE PHONE WITHOUT FINDING YOU A LIBRARY but seriously the kid could only tell me he lived on a street that runs north-south virtually the whole length of the COUNTY. Thank goodness he also lived close to a Burlington Coat Factory. g
