Emhyr/Geralt Story I Really Wasn’t Planning On Writing Until I’d Seen More Than Three Minutes of Emhyr Canon But What Can You Do: 20,947, which, uh, is all of it, give or take revising (and sequels, shut up, this situation is completely under control). WHAT HAPPENED IS, I hadn’t written anything Monday or Tuesday of this week due to Life Stuff and on Wednesday I sat down and started working on some tricky stuff with my current werewolf book which turned into just being Stuck pretty quickly, so I was like “you know, this week has been stressful, I’m not getting anywhere with this, I’m gonna just let myself write down some dialogue for this Emhyr/Geralt bunny that I’m definitely not writing but can’t stop thinking about” and then what I actually did was start writing the actual story from the beginning and just... keep going for 6,000 words, after which I grabbed some dinner and went home and ... wrote another 4,000 words before going to bed. (I... don’t know if I’ve ever written 10k of anything in a day before? Ever?) And then I just... kept... going over the next few days until it was finished. So. That happened? :D?
Also in my defense the three minutes of Emhyr canon I have seen consist of (Emperor of the North and South, conquering (anti)hero) Emhyr a) getting in Geralt’s personal space to make intense eye contact and talk about how insolent he is and b) asking Geralt to track down his (Emhyr’s) daughter and sole heir, who is also Geralt’s daughter (and who likes Geralt better) because reasons, and Geralt refusing to take Emhyr’s money for the job because this is about protecting Ciri. What more canon does a pairing need, I ask you.

Is there one of those, whadayacallem, canon guide thingies available for Witcher somewhere?

Honestly if you'd like to dip a toe in, your best bet might be to try some of astolat's Emhyr/Geralt? That's how I got interested in this pairing before ever seeing ANY canon. "Cursed" and "The War of Silver and Ash" are two of my favorites and I think give a pretty decent introduction to the world/characters/pairing while being on the shorter side.

There's also a wiki where you can check for like, visuals and definitions if you run into something you want more explanation for.

(I might try to put together an intro post, but I feel like that would turn into a rabbit hole and I want to spend that time writing/editing/posting. :D)

If you're going to be writing this stuff, I guess I better get up to speed. :D

and here's two decent character introductions:

But in terms of the fandom -- I second Dira, astolat's fic does a solid job of giving all the expository details necessary to understanding the unvierse and characters without needing to go figure it out on your own.

AHAHAHA. IT'S SO TRUE.
It's the best assignment ever. Geralt walks in all LOL FUCKIT THIS MAN IS POWERFUL? DON'T CARE.
He then proceeds to try to disagree with EVERYTHING, pissing Emhyr off. Emhyr gets all goaded.
AND THEN, well, Geralt is basically like, "Oh, but yes, I'll do that, really all you had to do was ask," if you read between the lines. I love it so much.
If you need any beta reading, I am 100% down to wade through 21k of Geralt/Emhyr, because it is what the world needs. Also they are such sassy bitches, I love it.
(My only Witcher icon is Ciri, because while I love Geralt, Ciri is just so much less ridiculous sometimes.)

(aaand of course I had to immediately write a story where I was like "okay but uh what if Geralt was in circumstances where he did not feel like he could tell Emhyr to fuck all the way off.")
