Remember that time it took me 7 years to finish a Stargate fic? Yeah, odds are against me finishing a 30 day meme in anything like 30 days, but I will persevere. Probably.

3 – For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favorite characters to write?

Okay, well, I listed 49 fandoms on day two, so answering this exactly as asked would get seriously out of control. Instead, under the cut, my favorite characters to write from what I semi-scientifically conclude are my top ten current and past fandoms.

Playing favorites! )

Pretty much my favorite meme ever, swiped from all over my friends list:

When you see this, post a little weensy excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.

I have four things that I am currently considering works in progress, which doesn't seem like very many at all even if, combined, they total a quarter of a million words. *g*

One each: Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Numb3rs, and Bones )

I am having something of a trying day (still haven't seen SPN or figured out where to get a good copy of the ep; Wings lost last night while I was listening to them instead of watching SPN; cramps; stupid work things) but, hey--it's Friday, it's the one day of the freaking YEAR The Man lets us wear jeans, and tonight there will be beer, fangirls, and perhaps onion rings. In no particular order of importance. or anything.

Meanwhile, I have posted fic this week!

Ty Nant in a Clear Glass Bottle at [livejournal.com profile] bones_flashfic for the Water challenge. Hodgins/Angela, PG.

Boys Who Wear Glasses at [livejournal.com profile] numb3rsflashfic for the The Secret Life of Don Eppes challenge. Don/Colby, PG.

...so clearly it is my week for writing fluff in non-standard pairings. W00T!

1) I posted a story for the In the Car challenge at [livejournal.com profile] bones_flashfic (open until Thursday!): Front Seat is PG-ish Booth/Brennan.

2) Hockeeeeeeeeeeeeey! Weekend playoff games are being broadcast nationally on NBC, so I got to watch Game 2 between the Wings and Flames yesterday. The Wings won 3-1, taking them up 2-0 in the series, and... well, it's been a while since they were up two games in a series.

My favorite moment from the game--apart from the goals and the part where WE WON and the part where Brett Hull was doing commentary between periods and talking about the "tumultuous" two years during which a younger hockey player lived with him rent-free, wink, nudge--uh, anyway! My favorite part of the game was this moment when the team captains, Jarome Iginla of the Flames and Nick Lidstrom of the Red Wings, happened to be battling each other in the Red Wings' crease.

Iginla is a goalie-pestering forward, Lidstrom a stay-at-home defenseman, so they were crowded up against each other and the Red Wings' goalie, Dominik Hasek. At some point Iginla bumped Hasek and started to lose his balance--Hasek was already falling backward and Iginla was about to fall on top of him. The game had already included a several scuffles resulting from collisions with the goalies.

Nick Lidstrom, ever the peacemaker, interposed his stick across Iginla's back and gently tipped him in the opposite direction, so he'd fall clear of Hasek.

My least favorite moment (though it ended in a goal, which was lovely) was a particular Detroit power play during which our goalie-pesterer, Tomas Holmstrom, had planted himself in his usual position with his ass in Mikka Kiprusoff's face. Unfortunately, he'd lost his helmet almost as soon as the power play began.

Now the major role of a goalie-pesterer? Is for his teammates to take shots more or less straight at him so that they will either deflect off him into the net or slip by both him and the goalie because the goalie can't see around him. At least three pucks bounced off Holmstrom (happily, not off his bare head) before one went in, but Lord--I spent that whole power play just hoping everybody made it out alive.

Which is to say: hockeeeeeeeeeeeey! \o/

Mmmm, hotlinking )

I wrote a story!

Green is my genfic response to the Pre-Series challenge at [livejournal.com profile] bones_flashfic (Challenge still open until Thursday!) It's Zack and Jack, PG, and as you might imagine, pre-series.

Over the weekend, [livejournal.com profile] iuliamentis and I set up [livejournal.com profile] bones_flashfic!

It's a Bones bi-weekly fic challenge community, modeled on, uh, pretty much every other flashfic community I could find (is there a list somewhere?) with challenges starting this Thursday, March 22. All ratings, all pairings, all genres! [livejournal.com profile] bones_flashfic! Sign up now!

[livejournal.com profile] iuliamentis is down for the weekend, most of which we have spent on my couch watching tv.

We've just moved on from CSI: New York to Supernatural by way of The Prestige, with breaks for Girlyman (hi [livejournal.com profile] sanj! hi [livejournal.com profile] wordplay! hi, er, other people whose names I've forgotten!) and extensive discussion of a certain joint undertaking in Bones about which more soon.

None of the shows I watch in real-time (or, well, in torrent-delayed real time, or torrent- and attention-span-delayed real time, or... anyway) is airing new episodes right now. I imprinted largely on dead shows, so it mostly just feels like time to catch my breath (i.e. watch more CSI: New York!) but, anyway. Everything is (allegedly) coming back in the next month:

Life on Mars - March 13 (UK)
Bones - March 14
Regenesis - April 1 (Canada)
Standoff - April 6
Numb3rs - April 6 ETA: actually, March 9!

Remember Standoff? Ron Livingston, Gina Torres, Michael Cudlitz, big guns, hostage situations, etc.? That's the one I'm kind of watching recede infinitely into the distance: Fox announced it was moving to Friday 8pm, and initially said it was coming back in "Early March," then last week it was March 30, and as of now it's April 6. It's anyone's guess whether they'll actually go through the formality of airing it in the Timeslot of Dooooooom before killing it, but, hey, there's always room for one more slender little DVD set...

That is all.

Last night I walked into a Barnes & Noble in search of the second season of The West Wing on DVD and walked out with the second season of Numb3rs. And also a bar of chocolate, which I threw in just to make the purchase as a whole less depressing.

After I got home, and after I'd watched Bones (oh, Stephen Fry, please stop making me want to slash you with whatever guy you share screentime with, it's kind of a distressing superpower in this particular instance; also, oh, Seeley Booth, I LOVE YOU) I popped in the first disc, because there was exactly one reason I even wanted the damn DVD set.

The blooper reel.

And let me just say: ♥ ♥ ♥

I have an ungodly love for blooper reels in general; I downloaded and watched the S1 Supernatural blooper reel without having seen the show. Likewise the fifteen-minute Battlestar Galactica blooper reel extravaganza on youtube. The first thing I ever bought over the internet was a blooper reel from the X-Files' first two seasons, and I still have it. On VHS, baby. Ohyeah.

Anyway, even so, this was a lovely one: I think my favorite part was Diane Farr and Dylan Bruno having the giggles together, in some shot where the camera has him in range behind her shoulder. The best part was that he kept cracking up first, silently, and turning away behind her, and then she would start laughing too. Eventually the camera pans down to Dylan, crouching on the floor, trying to stop laughing. It is maybe just the best thing ever.

A funny thing about Numb3rs bloopers, though: the conspicuous absence of Peter MacNicol, two seasons running. Does he have some kind of philosophical objection to blooper reels? Is he sekritly a robot? The hell?

And speaking of the hell? - the episode summary printed on the DVD case for episode 2x01, "Judgment Call," refers to Megan Reeves as a "recent graduate from the FBI Academy."

Was I so busy not liking Megan for the first half of the season that I just missed where it was ever established that she's a rookie? I mean, it might explain some things about her character that I and others have objected to--her inability to project a tenth of Terry Lake's badassery, for one--but. The hell? Now I am tempted to watch the first five episodes of S2 over again, searching for clues. DON'T MAKE ME DO THAT, GUYS. PLEASE.

Also also, oh JOY, two commentaries that include Rob Morrow, neither of which also features Cheryl, or Nick, or David. Has anybody watched/listened to these? How are they? Is Rob's quarter of the commentary worth watching that damn stalking episode again? Inquiring minds want to know.
dira: Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Booth/Brennan - Hand! by catharsis_o_s)
Someday, I am going to write something in this fandom of which I am not tempted to say that I really don't usually write this sort of thing. Today is not that day.

Apropos of my speculations on Seeley Booth's past as a hockey player and at [livejournal.com profile] lilac_one's behest (oh yes you DO owe me fic now, and I have two words for you: one is Kiss and the other is Cam, and you know I'm not talking about Dr. Saroyan, baby) ... ice skating.

[livejournal.com profile] iuliamentis aided, abetted, and should most certainly be charged as an accessory before, during, and after the fact.

Booth and Brennan, gen? I guess? Inasmuch and Booth and Brennan are ever gen? Gooshy ice skating fluff.

On Ice )
dira: Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Booth/Brennan - Hand! by catharsis_o_s)
Uh, yeah, I have now become that person who scrutinizes screencaps from multiple episodes to see what's on the wall behind the character and uses those props to draw elaborate conclusions about him. What can I say? It's Seeley Booth and hockey, people. I'm only human.

The Evidence )
dira: Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Booth/Brennan - Hand! by catharsis_o_s)
Okay, so I've been into Bones for about thirty-six hours now: time for fic!

I want to claim that I don't normally write this sort of thing, but I think the evidence against me is really beginning to stack up. I'm tempted to say that too often for it to be true. So:

Gen. Death story. (Here you go, [livejournal.com profile] hth_the_first, it's established well within the first three paragraphs. *g*) Probably a bit more macabre and gruesome than the show, though not much, I swear.

Audienced by [livejournal.com profile] qe2 and ably and patiently betaed by [livejournal.com profile] iuliamentis, who has hopefully helped me to avoid any really egregious rookie moves; but neither of us has been in the fandom a whole week, so I apologize for any faux pas.

They're good, sturdy, solid bones. They would have lasted Booth another forty years easily.

Have just watched the first four episodes of Bones season one. Am in love. Am making up goofy pairing names (Jack/Zack=Jzack, naturally, but what do we call Booth/Brennan for short? B&B? B/B? Beebee? Boones?) and evolving theories about hotel room sex. Send help.

Or fic. Send fic. That works too.

yes, [livejournal.com profile] qe2, you were totally, totally right. as was everyone else who told me to watch it.
