Thanks to
fandomsecrets there is something I need to tell you guys. I, like the person who made this secret, ( LOVE BUSH. )
Just got an email from the college, telling me they couldn't open the attached form I sent them (which, hi, maybe you should have just said 'email us your response, including the following info' rather than asking that we email back a .doc file, but whatever) and requesting that I resend and put my response in the body of the email as well, just in case. So I just redownloaded the file, filled it out, saved-with-shorter-file-name, and composed a jaunty reply email including an assurance that I got the attachment right this time and the information that I won't be at orientation this weekend, which I, of course, sent off without attaching the file.
*facepalm*
And now for something completely different: ( cracked-out crossovers I swear I will never write )

...I've just realized that watching Hornblower is making me nostalgic for--making me actively consider hunting down and rereading--David Feintuch's Midshipman's Hope.
I've gotten to the point of telling myself the first one wasn't so bad, it was just the cumulative effect of five books' worth of...
Everything goes wrong.
Hero saves the day.
Hero blames himself for everything that went wrong.
Hero thinks he's going to hell.
Lather.
Rinse.
Repeat.
...that compelled my seventeen-year-old, critical-judgement-free self to give up on the books so entirely as to sell them off.

GIP! and irrelevant mental image thing.
Apr. 21st, 2005 10:41 amAnd on a completely unrelated note, last night in between fiddling around getting "Passing" ready to post, I wound up adding a bunch of tracks to my playlist, including - quite innocently! not thinking of the ramifications! - "I Got You" by the Split Enz. It had probably been literally years since I had listened to the song. And yet--there I was, lying in bed, when it came up, and I remembered, much too late, that this song is inextricably linked to my mental image of Aral Vorkosigan singing it, drunk and barefoot and quite possibly standing on a table. The guitar he's playing sort of wavers in and out in my mind's eye. So it's been, like, six years, and it was a throwaway comment to begin with, but thanks,
here we go again.
Apr. 20th, 2005 11:16 pmI have written a thing, and while I usually don't go blaming other people when that happens, this time it is practically entirely
lyra_sena's fault. She gave me a place to crash for two nights after ConneXions, and she fed me and had a cute cat and showed me the latter four Horatio Hornblower movies, as she didn't have the first four handy right at that second. And when I held up my hands to indicate a very small thing and said, "I want to write a story this big," she said, "Oh, yes, do that!"
And then I wrote a story, very slightly more than this big.
lyra_sena was a most patient beta while I was something of a wuss about rewrites, and
damned_colonial significantly aided and abetted the whole process by carefully explaining to me how the pants--and everything else--work. A lot of people listened to me whinge about this story over the last three weeks, and now the suffering is over. *g*
Passing (16k). It's slash, set near the end of Retribution, and rates about a PG.
Also, as I am a bit of a number dork, I am pleased to observe that this is the 75th story in the 17th fandom on my site. Wheeeee!

Apr. 9th, 2005 07:27 pmSo. After spending a lot of time cleaning and waiting around for the repair guy and cleaning some more and waiting around some more, I still have water dripping from my bathroom ceiling. OTOH, I finally felt free to actually go run some errands, which included going to Borders and buying. um. Horatio Hornblower: The Complete Adventures on DVD. And then I came home and ordered the last two, which are not included in the Complete Adventures because, I don't know. They're Extra-Complete or something. So. Yes. I maybe have a little bit of a thing for Horatio. And Archie. And Bush. OMG BUSH.
And to allay
qe2's cognitive dissonance, I mean Lt. William Bush as played by Paul McGann, and not that other one we hear so much about in this country.
So. Yes. Ahem.
( Book identification meme answers behind the cut )
