Jun. 20th, 2003 12:29 pmSo I was in the car this morning, and I noticed that Bud Light's "Real American Hero" radio commercials have become "Real Men of Genius." At first I thought, oh, that's odd, everything else in this country has gotten more patriotically jingoistic, funny that they'd take 'American Hero' out of their ads. But then I realized they're probably being, um, sensitive. Which, on the one hand, is sort of reasonable as, y'know, there's a War On, and we have the bullet-taking kind of Real American Hero going on now, and on the other, dammit. I'm all for supporting the troops, but if our boys and girls in Bosnia and South Korea weren't offended by the Bud Light ads a few years ago, I don't see why our people in Iraq should be now. "Real Men of Genius" just doesn't scan as well.
( And now for something completely different... )

The way Ray reaches to help Fraser up is totally counterintuitive - he ought to reach across Fraser's body, so that he can lever up, but instead he grabs his near hand, and Fraser has to struggle visibly to get up - because if he'd reached across, they couldn't stand side by side and go on holding hands.
And then I watched "The Ladies' Man" and, um. Somebody needs to give Ray a hug. That was 45 straight minutes of somebody needing to give Ray a hug. Somebody, y'know. Canadian.
