iuliamentis and I stuck it out for eight or ten songs and then made a tactical retreat during Silver Jet to somewhere with a little less frantic shoving and likelihood of getting crushed.
Crowd surfing didn't start up til late in the show - "My Music at Work" - and I sort accidentally totally groped the first surfer to come our way, trying to catch him on his way down. I gave him a hand up, though, and he seemed okay. The next surfer to crash knocked Iulia down, which was really scary, but surfers seemed to open a space when they went down, instead of getting trampled, and we got her right back up to her feet. Most of the other surfers got passed safely into the waiting arms of Security, who were also passing around bottles of water and hosing us down. Sometimes the wind would blow and I could breathe cool air and that was nice, too.
Coming back across the border at half past midnight, there actually *was* a lineup - apparently because the border guards were administering the really rather charming "make small talk with the nice man for three minutes" sobriety test. We passed with flying colors - didn't even admit to having seen joints passed around.
So. Not dead. My shoving muscles hurt more than my feet, which is pretty astonishing since we'd been standing in place for four hours before the Hip came on, plus standing in line beforehand and standing through the show. Didn't get groped much at all, and most of the knocks I took were mild, although I did suffer a critical injury to my left sandal - one buckle has just vanished.
Oh, yeah, and GORD WAS RIGHT THERE. For a while I was so close I could in fact see his shoes, and even when we backed off - Gord was right there. So, I'll do it differently next time, but. Gord! And the other guys! Right there!
