Three hockey fans in Canada are seeking legal recourse to free the Stanley Cup from NHL control. They argue that the purpose of the Cup is to honor the best team playing in Canada in a given year - which is, in fact, the original purpose for which Lord Stanley gave the Cup - and if no NHL teams play this year, the Cup ought to be awarded to another team.

I say: fuck yeah it should. And if some AHL or college or junior team wins it? The next NHL league champ ought to have to play them to get the Cup back. It would be no more than they deserved for allowing this lockout bullshit to so totally disrupt the sport.
